Some pretty big ballsacks being flopped around in the early bidding so far. If Ed is going to overpay for a free agent, at least it's arguably the best player in the game this year, and not an aging setup man like 2018 JIm

I’d like to encourage all small raises in bidding to be paired with “suck it.” Credit to Jim for setting the tone in the Kimbrel bidding.

Perhaps on all bids over 40 MM it should be: “Everyone eat a big bag of shit! Yes!” Hope there are some Semi-Pro fans out there. Everybody love everybody.

Same. I wish there was a way that we could do it for Tier 2, but that would just get crazy and could potentially take a really long time.

This new system has really made me embrace the realism of being the Oakland A's. I look at the money being thrown around, and all I can offer is about tree fitty.
I do think this is a much better way of handling free agency though, and I would be for expanding it.

I think you'd have to start much earlier in the off-season. Maybe for tier 2, each team can have three active bids open. That would either be by creating a new thread for a new player or outbidding another team. Once you get outbid on one, you can place another bid (or open a new player). Of course, that would totally clog up the message board, so maybe you would need to create new boards: "Starting pitchers," "Relief pitchers," "1st Baseman," Etc. Just spitballing here. I do think, however, it would make the offseason much more lively, which could then spill over into the regular season, creating a more vibrant message board.

That is very interesting but, you are correct, we would need to start earlier. I think it would add some excitement and also help owners narrow their focus instead of waiting to see if they won the first day of bidding. I could, however, see it being chaos unless structured the right way. So they are positives and negatives obviously but... I think the positives win the day.

And there is no doubt it would need to start much earlier. However, the lack of available ZIP projections earlier in the off-season is a big reason to not do this. Unless Dan is able to get the zips out earlier than he did this year, I dont think we should ever start T2 before the majority of ZIPs are released.

I'm not sure I'm on board but the only way around this problem would be to start FA when all Zips are out and just have our season start late every year (which it does now). Just schedule it to start late (Say mid May or something) and run into November. Probably not too much of a change from how we run it now. WE just would be guaranteeing that we won't be on MLB's schedule.

That is a great point about the ZIPS Matt. I wish you were thinking this clearly when I was trying to acquire Inciarte.... dammit

I really wanna see Trout get to $50 million per. It's not like it's gonna be my money anyways.
Although I would prefer it not be an NL Central team that he signs with.

Connor, you're either gonna lose or pay way more than even Matt will be willing to take on in a lopsided trade. Save face and stop now.

What I'm learning from this exercise is that I should have $55M+ set aside for Machado next year.

As someone who is not going to be active in free agency (my 25-man roster is already set, so evvvvvvvvvveryone can suck it), these FA bidding threads still make for must-see reading.
It's like watching a trainwreck. And a whole bunch of naked men with boners scamper out of the passenger cars, and keep hitting into each other.
That's what it's like.

Skip McMountme's way-too-early Tier 1 GM comparisons...1. Marlins' GM Ed 2. Rays' GM ConnorDog Big and unapologetic, these GMs are forcing everyone else in NSBL into an immediate sack-check. If the size of your stack isn't large, nerds need not continue. 3. Mets' GM Hayes 4. Cubs' GM Joe Maybe not quite elite-level, but still serious contenders in the big for top NSBL free agent booty. 5. Reds' GM Colby 6. Mariners' GM Patrick 7. Blue Jays' GM Tracy 8. Angels' GM John Not entirely serious, but not entirely joking. Overlooking one of these guys could see a prime free agent land in one of these hamlets for rock-bottom value. Like a teenager with a Monster Energy Drink and the keys to his Mom's Toyota Camry. 9. Red Sox' GM Tim 10. Brewers' GM Sean Like a spectacled bookworm drawing bullies like heat-seeking missiles of justice, these nerds are clearly outclassed in this contest right from the start. Tier 1 free agent fodder. Nope. 24 hours without a bid and the high bid wins. If after 7 days the bidding is still going on, it comes down to just people who've bid in the last 24 hours of it. To prevent any snipers.
