I hate this waiting. I know that the top target on my board won't be there when I pick, but there's always that small glimmer of hope that everyone else skipped over him... or I just really overrate him...

It's strange how the hope of overrating a player is just a real thing in this league. Maybe I just like this guy too much? If I like him too much, should I just wait until Summer? If he's still good though, he'll never make it to my Summer pick. I don't even understand how half these guys draft. Am I about to get stuck in a feedback loop? Maybe I just like this guy too much?

Connor and I were texting last night and agreed there was a clear #1 in this draft. I'm pretty sure he'll go second.

I hope he goes 10th.

I've got a guy who I feel is a clear number 1. If somehow he makes it to8, he won't make it to 9. Doubt it...

I have a favorite, but I think there is some room for interpretation in a clear #1.

Vlad is who I would've gone with at 1. Knew it was a pipe dream that he falls to me. Good pick.

Well now that it's over, we can all try to sort out the guys who go after Lil' Vlad. I, for one, plan to draft like an idiot!

He still wasn't my #1. But I know Ian and I had the same guy #1 so he'll go next. Vlad was my #2 though. Good pick.

I'm starting to see exactly how opaque the #1 guy was this draft. Vlad Jr. was only #2 on some lists! What a pile of idiots!

Yadier Alvarez was the #1 guy on my list. Not as high on VLad Jr. as some others.

I had Alvarez and Guerrero #1 and #1a. Didn't matter to me which one I got, but I have Alvarez in another fantasy league. As stupid as this sounds, I wanted to spread my shares around to more players, rather than putting them all in the Alvarez basket. So Vlad it is.

Alvarez was number 1 for me as well, though I knew there was no shot at him.

I had Alvarez as the only jewel of this draft. I had Vlad at #2 and Szapucki at #4, though I think you could shuffle 2-5 and be happy either way.

As stupid as this sounds, I wanted to spread my shares around to more players, rather than putting them all in the Alvarez basket. So Vlad it is. Ha ha.... I like that rationale. I do probably too much double dipping between my two leagues. So I fully expect to be bitten in the ass by Carter Kieboom, despite his 75 grade name. I don't have a clear #3 on my list. Alvarez and Vlad were just my clear 1 and 2. I had about five names in the next group but the more I look at it, there are two that are rising up. One pitcher and one hitter. I still doubt either will reach me at 16, but I can hope. Of course every year I come into this draft hoping for one of my top 5 names to magically reach me and they never do. So then I just have one or two "realistic" names, and they rarely do either. My top realistic name last year was stolen out from under me by my arch-nemesis, Jimmy "The Krug". But I think I am happier with the player I got anyways. At least he wasn't stabbed in the hand by a teammate, missing half the year. I am more prepared for this Winter draft than I think I've been for any other. I am not doing any extra research this year to get an eligibility list ready or anything. I've had it done since the Summer. Damn I love drafting!

Alvarez was a top target for me as well. I didn't love my chances at actually taking him but I'm thrilled.

OK, I'm ready to make my pick. With the first pick in the Winter Draft the Philadelphia Phillies Select: Thomas Szapucki LHP New York Mets Kansas City is now up. Who gets Sczapucki first? Connor or Tracy? Should be an interesting bidding war after this coming season. Who will offer the most quantity with the least quality?

I say it every year, but I mean it. This league has gotten so much better at drafting the last few years. All four of these guys were on my list. I was hoping Szapucki or Sixto would reach me (and had an unrealistic dream that Alvarez or Vlad Jr would).

Alvarez was #1 on my board, and I had no expectation he would fall to the 4th pick. Looking over what was left, I like several hitters on the board, but didn't feel any were can't miss at this point. So I stuck with my overall game plan to build around pitching prospects. In the last year, I've snagged: Sixto, Espinoza, Pint, Mahle and Raudes. Sixto is very young, inexperienced and naturally a lot goes wrong on the way to the majors. But that's where you have to trust the development time and early reports. He's got a lot of ceiling to grow into and shows athleticism to do so. That's worth a lot.
I admit I totally overlooked Szapucki. Fantastic stuff and Ks, but he just reads like a reliever to me. I could easily be underestimating him. He has multiple plus pitches.

I like the Jahmai Jones pick. I am not really in the market for OF, but he was one of about four that I had on my list that I would have considered were he there at 16. So far there hasn't been a bad pick in this draft. All of these guys were ones that I was hoping would fall to me.

I want Scott to pick so badly. It gets so exciting when the draft gets ahead of schedule. Imagine if all the picks are good until I get to pick! Oh I'm so excited to potentially ruin the early part of this draft. There are so many floor guys I can add to my roster. It's gonna be a tough call to take a shot at a ceiling guy or a floor guy. Freeing up that money in the Porcello deal really gives me options now. I can start adding prospects I like, useful floor guys with a little upside left, or just be a complete idiot! So much fun! Required drafting is the best! We should have more required draft picks in the summer.

Greg Allen was my primary target and I think he may be the biggest sleeper in the draft so far. I would have liked to have him between Verdugo and Aquino in my future OF. More than that, after trading Akil Baddoo, Allen would have softened the blow of that loss. That said, he likely wouldn't have fallen to me, nor should he have. Solid pick there.

Can't disagree with this. Allen has a really good shot at being an elite CFer and lead off hitter for Cleveland. Really nice pick.

I can't wait to draft. We've had so many good picks, I can't wait for y'all to look at mine and go "WTF?!?"
