I had Aiken targeted for a while, but I've been watching and waiting for his season to finish, just in case he gets injured or something. With his team's win yesterday, the earliest his season will finish is Saturday, though June 3rd is the most realistic possibility. I'm assuming that he's pitching tomorrow (since he didn't pitch yesterday and they're facing a higher seed and all), and kind of wanted to wait to see how he did there, but whatever. Outside of a freak accident (like his left arm falling off), I'm going with him.
How often can you get a lefty who hits 97 with a smooth delivery? He already has 3 plus pitches, and is getting compared to Clayton Kershaw on a regular basis. I did think hard about Kolek's 100+ MPH heater, but there are just too many question marks with him that just aren't there with Aiken.
With Aiken, Urias, Shipley, Zach Lee, Jake Thompson, Hader, and even Jacob Turner and Deck McGuire (He's finally in AAA!!!!!!!!!!!), I love the future potential that my pitching staff possesses.
Let the draft commence!

Just took Tyler Kolek.
I'd like to move the current pick (1.03), but if I don't get an offer I like in the next couple of days, the pick will be made some time next week. I'm not looking for anything in specific, but I do have an interest in picks in 2014/15/16, as well as prospects on the offensive side of the ball.

Does Boston know he's up? He obviously has time, just wondering if anyone has heard from him. I know he doesn't post here often...

I just have a ton of players that I'm going through and I need to figure out if I want someone 1 year away or 4 years away. I'll gladly entertain offers to move down in the first round depending on the offer.

I have my pick ready to go after the Sox make their pick. But I will also entertain offers to move down. I'm seeking two picks from my pick at 1.05; a later first round pick and a second round pick, or some package that will sway me off the player I have qued up. I won't drag it out either. I'll give it 24 hours max from the time the Sox make the pick in front of me.

I get antsy to see who is going to be drafted, even if my next isn't until the 4th round

I have spent the majority of my upper picks, both summer and winter, trying to build my pitching depth, but I told myself months ago that I would commit to Nick Gordon if he was still on the board. It was made easier when I acquired Robbie Ray at the start of the season. In addition, the rash of injuries to the HS arms, coupled with the uncertainty of HS arms to begin with, scared me off any of them. If Gordon was gone, I was going to trade out of the slot. It's going to be a long time before this move pays dividends, but I like the pedigree and makeup, as well as seeing projectable power as he has built up his size and strength over the last several months. I've never picked in the first half of a draft, so I hope my first one pays off.

I like both the Eilas and Gordon pick. Eilas just dominated the Tigers on Sunday. Can't wait for the mlb draft tomorrow.

I also like the Eilas pick for all the reasons already mentioned. He was on my radar and a guy I would have liked to add at some point in this draft.
I am looking forward to how various (both real GMs and gms in our league) rank these prospects. I have been looking forward to this since I made my pick in the winter draft (hopefully he starts pitching better soon!).

Ben Lively was another guy on my board, but i was not sure how highly he'd be selected. He is having a heck of a year thus far.

Draft is mostly going as expected so far. The top 3 picks are exactly the top 3 I expected in some order. The Elias pick is... I don't think I would have made that pick. I understand Boston has decided they are in a win-now mode, but with the #4 overall pick, I think there is too much top end talent available to draft a guy who has a likely ceiling of a #3 or 4 SP. Not saying I don't like Elias, or I didn't want him, but I think he was taken at least 20 spots too early there.
The most consistent team in our league, Toronto, has remained that way because he always takes the BPA. Even if it's not the position he needs. I can't recall any high draft picks where he drafted for floor rather than ceiling.
But, I am so happy the RL Mariners got Alex Jackson. Didn't think there was any way he'd drop to us. The draft had a clear cut Top 3, and a clear cut Next 2. The Cubs... ugh. I don't know what they are thinking. I can understand not taking a pitcher with the #4 pick because after the top 3, there was no one worth going #4 overall... but why take a player with limited defensive ability? You already have Rizzo at 1B, Bryant who is going to have to move to 1B or LF, and Baez who will be the 3B. Where does Schwarber fit in there? Do you think he is going to play LF and they're going to move Bryant to RF? Vice versa? I think the Cubs had four obvious choices for this pick, Jackson, Pentecost, Turner, or Gordon. Shit, you could even make a case for Nola, even though he doesn't have TOR potential. But Schwarber?

There was 4 players I realistically wanted at the 8th spot. Lively and Gordon were 2. But my top 2 were Freeland and Conforto. So I was excited when both were left with one pick to go. I was leaning towards Conforto. I'm just glad SD made my choice simple lol.

I watched the Mlb draft through the Reds pick.I was susurprised Schwarber went that high. Jackson has potential to be the best bat in the draft. Figured he would of went before him. Specially since Kyle most likely won't stay at catcher.
Also I was surprised that Hoffman and Fedde didn't drop a little more both having just recently had tj surgery. Hoffman I thought would drop to about where Fedde went. Fedde I thought would of dropped to end of 1st. Goes to show if you have great stuff the MLB is more willing to take the risk then the NFL.

I've been following him for a couple of months now, because his father is a sales distributor for my brother. He's been setting up a trip to come visit the Hall of Fame here in nearby Cooperstown; a place he's never been to. I thought about taking him for nostalgic reasons, but only if I had traded down deeper into round one. He comes from an athletic family. His Dad was a linebacker for Penn State and his Mom won two medals in the Olympics in synchronized swimming. I'm going to enjoy meeting him and I will continue to follow his career path. Good luck to the Twins with him.

Definitely shooting upside with Newcomb. He doesn't turn 21 until later this month, doesn't have a lot of use on his arm, and watching him throw (video) it looks like very easy arm action for him. Predictions are 2-3 SP, but if he can improve the control I think he can be a 1-2 SP.
Well, all above still holds, just traded the pick to get him instead of drafted him myself.

Pick will be up in a bit (probably before 4:30). Between a couple of players, I just knew that I wanted one of them more than Newcomb.

When I thought Newcomb was available it had come down to him and Touki. Either way Touki would have been gone with this pick. I'm still thrilled to have Newcomb, I think he has a chance at becoming a #1 and a "good" shot at being a #2.

I'm a little shocked by Jeff trading out of Newcomb in favor of Touki Toussaint. IMO, Newcomb doesn't have the wear and tear on his arm (coming from the NE) and he just seems to have the frame, delivery, command and make-up to be a very solid SP. It seems like everything that Toussaint would hope to become. Plus, he's left handed. I had him very high on my board. Trying to figure this move out.

I'm with Mark on this one. I'm not a huge Newcomb fan, but I do like him considerably more than Touki (except for his name.... I like the name Touki, even if it is a relatively infamous name (Tooki)). There is just too much I've read in scouting reports -- but I have yet to watch any video cause I'm not a scout who dissects pitching motion -- that screams "bust" to me.

I didn't have any plans to move up in this draft or to trade Newcomb. When Tracy mistakenly took him, I decided to send an email to move up into that spot as I had a couple of people ahead of Newcomb on my MLB draft board.
I like Newcomb, but I worry about his command. He has trouble repeating his delivery, and he's an average athlete. Seems like there's a good chance he never really masters it. I see him as more of a mid rotation guy in the end.
There were four players I considered taking once I moved up; I opted for the best athlete. You can bag on Toussaint's command too, but the athleticism lets you dream. I traded a little bit of safety for more upside and athleticism.
Now I just have to hope that at least one of my other guys makes it to 24.

Despite the comps of "utility man" or "David Eckstein", I went with SS Nolan Fontana, based on past blunders.
1. I wanted to draft SP Tony Cingrani, but finally talked myself out of it after so many "experts" said he profiled as nothing more than an RP. Then he kept dominating, and those same a-holes changed their evaluations.
2. I also passed on 2B Jose Altuve, because I thought all the negativity surrounding his height would prevent him from being a good Major Leaguer. So once again, I passed on my instinct and the stats I saw, and regretted it.
So I'm saying 'screw it' this time and going with the guy whose stats I love.

Decided to continue to stockpile arms and took Grant Holmes, a power arm from South Carolina with a great curveball. He doesn't have the projection of some of the arms in this class, but he has great present stuff, and good command for a high school arm. Although he was drafted by the real life Dodgers (my least favorite team), he was the top guy left on my board. My reserve roster is heavily favoring arms, so I could have really used a bat, but I didn't see a bat I liked this high. I think my later picks in this draft will be focused on building up the bats in my system.

Thanks Tim. I wanted to take Lamb in the winter draft but I wanted to see how he healed up from the broken hamate bone. I was a little surprised to see him there when I picked, especially after Sickels did a write up on him the other day. I'm very happy with the pick.
