Shaw was one of the two guys I would have taken at 1:24 had Diaz not have been there still. The kid can rake! Nice selection.

I had three hitters on my list. O'Neill was first and Shaw was third. Hoping for #2 now.

I love Chris Shaw, he was one of the top hitters for me going into the winter draft. Great pick. I'd be much more bummed about not being able to draft Shaw at 30 if Ronald Guzman hasnt revived his career in a big way this year.

I was wondering how long Bader was going to be available. Nice pick Rich.

I was very close to taking another pitcher here. But let's face it, I'm close to taking another pitcher with every draft pick.

Was happy to get Whitley at #20. His work ethic and smooth delivery gives me hope that he'll slot in towards the top half of the rotation. Was considering taking a bat but you can never have enough pitching prospects.

I was really hoping for Whitely to fall to me at 1.28. I like that pick a lot.

Keller was the pitcher I almost took with my last pick. Talked myself out of it because I have to fight against my affinity for pitchers.

I, too, was going to draft Mitch Keller, which makes the 2nd time Ian has screwed me this draft (I nearly traded to 1.12 to draft Delvin Perez, yet instead he kept the pick and took the very same player). On top of that, I'm pretty sure Joe told Ian who I was going to pick: I even had my post all written up to draft Keller so I could do it from my phone while I was out! Basically, Ian is a jerk and is making me do extra research on who to pick. I just got back to my computer and am doing some last minute comparisons between a couple guys, but the pick will be made shortly.

And there goes my pick. Son of a bitch! Dammit! I sit and watch my man Acuna just being passed on with every pick and he goes two picks in front of me. I honestly think he was potentially the best player available in this draft. I was imagining an OF with Yelich in LF, Acuna in CF and Verdugo in RF. If there's a list one notch below the shit list, Connor is on it right now.

I was tempted to take Paddack in the Winter Draft. Sickels was really aggressive in rating him high, but I wasn't hearing many scouting reports from FG or BP. Then Dan at FG ranked him the #2 prospect in the Marlins system, saying he could be the #1 rated prospect by the end of this year. Now, BP and BA is starting to chirp about him too, so that sealed the deal for me. Yes, I wanted Acuna in round one, but figured it would cost me getting Paddack by waiting until 2:24. Decent enough consolation prize at least.

This makes two leagues now I have drafted Kieboom in. In the MLBSA I want him to move to SS, since I already have Lindor and no 3B prospects. Over here, I'd like him to stay at SS since I have Arenado and Gallo (who I think moves to 1B, or maybe a COF) and now Bregman moving to 3B. In one league I will be happy, and the other I shall be disappointed. Unless he flops. Then I will be disappointed in both.
Still a 70+ grade name though, so put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Per usual I really like all the picks. Im a big fan of Acuna and Paddock. KieBOOOM has plenty of upside, if he can stick at short stop he could be a stud.
Im still debating between a few guys although my decision has been made much easier by the last handful of picks...Ill have my pick up this afternoon

Some pretty solid picks to close out the first round.

Stewart lasted much longer than I expected. Big power with swing and miss, but good discipline.

I don't know for certain, but I am guessing that 10 picks in one day is an NSBL Record.

This is the worst. I know exactly who I want. The anxiety is killing me! Of course, I have no backup pick in mind, so that means he'll go the pick right before me.

Damn it! Mengden was the guy I wanted. Guess I need to find a backup plan now. Jinxed myself...

I didn't expect Cristin Stewart to last that long either. First round pedigree, athlete, power, performing well since drafted. He checks all the boxes. Seems the league is focused on this year's 1st round talent to this point. Happy to add needed OF depth to my system, joining Trent Clark.
I have to thank TY for taking Wentz right before my pick. Two Kansas kids would've been tempting and bad news on my roster.

I have to thank TY for taking Wentz right before my pick. Two Kansas kids would've been tempting and bad news on my roster. It was my pleasure, really. There weren't a whole lot of high ceiling pitchers still out there, but I felt Wentz was one of them. His velocity drop late in the season doesn't worry me a lot, he's a great athlete and that should shine through. I like Rizzo to move off 3B and I'm hoping they move him to 2B. Even catcher has been rumored. I'd be fine with either. But getting one of the best HS power bats, and a lefty at that, fits what I'm doing. Pairing him up with some of my other young bats like Craig, Bryant, Piscotty, Moncada, Thompson, and Dietrich gives my team a bright future.

I'm pretty surprised Benson was still out there. I know he presents a lot of risk, but he's also got big talent.

After fielding a last-minute inquiry on my pick, I decided to keep it and go with Dunning. I'm a little nervous that he hasn't really started in college, but maybe that's good. Fewer innings on the arm.
I really wanted Mengden. I think he'll be perfect to plug into the back of the rotation next season. Hopefully Dunning won't be too long in the minors.
I did almost talk myself into a hitter, but it's way too early to draft him. He may not even be ready to be drafted this season. If I can sell off a reliever (Rosscup? Roe? Anyone?) to slide back into the latter part of the draft, I may just try to take him.
In the end, though, I had to go pitching. I need some pitchers in my system, and adding Manning and Dunning (hey, they rhyme!) in this draft helps me to do just that.

Anyone else notice that there has yet to be a single trade of draft picks since this draft started? That's strange. I think some of that is a testament to how deep the real MLB Draft was. No one feels the need to give something up to move up.

For future reference, the player just drafted by the Nationals is Jaime Schultz, rather than Jamie Schultz

No one feels the need to give something up to move up. That's not due to lack of effort (at least on my part). I tried to both move down, and then up from my spot at 1.22 to no avail. Hopefully I'll be able to negotiate my later picks better than that if necessary.
