Reds Select Jordan Sheffield RHP Vanderbilt I like this pick. Sheffield was literally the top player on my Tier 2 list. I wasn't going to take him this year, despite his stock rising a lot recently. I wanted to see how he did next season, which most likely would be too late to get him, but I wanted to see him get his walks under control. But if the scouts are right and he does as well next season as they anticipate, then you just got a Top 20 MLB Draft prospect in the latter half of the third round. Nice pick.

With the majority of my rotation locked into contracts for the foreseeable future, I thought I'd try to add a possible ace type pitcher that is still a few years off. I forget exactly where I read it but there was a decent percentage of SEC pitchers that are aces now on ml staffs so given his background and family relations (brother of Justus Sheffield) I thought he'd be a safe pick after already going through TJ. The size worries me a little but I like what I see. Quantril was actually under consideration as well but due to his recent injury I wasnt ready to take a chance on him yet.

It was on some random site and the first line of the paragraph was a poorly worded insult at someone else's 2016 draft list. I do know what you mean about the height issue. I've drafted two undersized LHP in the first round the last two years. I am hoping they can stick in the rotation, although KC is already messing with Finnegan and one month he is relieving in the majors, and the next he's starting in the minors. They're yanking him back and forth and it's aggravating. But, we are subjected to ML team's handling of prospects and players and have no say in it. I'm not happy that Bregman was drafted by a team with a future superstar at SS who is only 20 years old. And their 2B is no slouch either. I really want Bregman to stay at SS, but that seems unlikely now unless they trade him after this season. Fingers crossed. I know Connor was really hoping that the D-Backs didn't draft Rodgers because of their recent handling of prospects. What team prospects play for comes into play when drafting. When drafting underclassmen, that's just one more unknown factor. But the possible upside later in our draft is irresistible.

Sorry guys. I normally have my next pick locked-and-loaded in the chamber, but I'm going to need a bit of time here to sort out which guy from my list (or not on my list) is the way to go.
I may need to take about a 1/3 of a Vancho* here.
JIm
PS A "Vancho" is a metric unit of draft time equivalent to 24 hours.

PS- Nothing personal. Just had to bust your balls a little. BTW- I tried to follow Skip McMountme on Twitter and couldn't find him. I'll be honest, I was really hoping I would. I think he should get a real account and post NSBL quips on it.

That Cal Quantrill pick was sneaky. I thought the TJ would push him to the 4th round.

That Cal Quantrill pick was sneaky. I thought the TJ would push him to the 4th round. Well, Dalbec and Ray going moved Quantrill up my board. It was still between he and another player (whom I hoping drops to 4.20) when I picked. But I thought Quantrill had a better chance of being taken between now and 4.20. Between now and then we have Baltimore with two picks, Oakland, Minnesota, Tampa, and KC. All of those teams heavily pick from the college ranks. And even with the TJ Surgery, Quantrill is still showing up as Top 10 for next season on some big boards so I knew he probably wouldn't last.

Back to the draft.
I had Quantrill high on my list. He was in consideration for pick 4.4.
And Faria, I haven't researched but he looks interesting.

I couldn't get a read on how much anyone liked or disliked Dewees. I went the "safer" route by picking a guy who didn't recently have TJ surgery. I'm not gonna lie though. I type Cal Quantrill and deleted it 3 times before settling on Dewees. Luckily I have a long list of names to choose from, so the sneaky pick isn't going to disrupt anything. Quantrill would have been gone if he made it to 4.1.

I moved the expansion comments to the Expansion thread under the Suggestion Board. They weren't deleted.

So what I hear everyone saying is that taking him when I did was a smart move cause there were at least two teams looking at him in the next ten picks.

Back to the draft. And Faria, I haven't researched but he looks interesting. I had Faria as my fallback after Adolfo-Zapata got selected. I'm getting very close to trading out of 4.03. 2 players of interest on my board left......still some picks to go in front of me.

Picking Quantril there was a good pick. I was goin to target him with my 4th rd pick because of the TJ. Went with Dalbec thinking no one would grab Cal before my 4th cause of TJ.
Nice pick.

With the last pick of the third round, Baltimore picks Matt Krook, LHP, University of Oregon. Damnit. I was going to pair him up with Quantrill, trade for Mike Matuella, and call them my "TJ Trio".

Since all the TJ guys were taken, I just settled for some other random college arm. College underclassmen are fun to draft. I should probably do this more often. What an enjoyable and fun experience it was having the freedom to take a player that had already been drafted once in real life. I just can't seem to think of anything better other than possibly drafting an underclassman that has recently undergone TJ surgery. This post was also fun. NSBL is just fun.

I was just listening to MiLB.com, The Show before the Show Podcast and they were interviewing Brent Honeywell. Not only is he extremely confident, he's a legit bad-ass redneck. Despite him not being on my team, I can't wait to watch this kid progress through the system. Sounds like he might land up being one of the true characters of the game. Great interview; worth the listen.

I see nothing in the rules that prohibits this pick. He was not eligible to be signed as a FA meaning he is draft eligible.

Skip, if you're going to report on the league, you should learn the rules of the league. Otherwise, some GM is going to go Ozzie Guillen on you.

He's just a little cranky since his wife Wanna was caught on film having sex with Peter Gammons and Skip Bayless. The film release is titled Industry Insider.
