Arizona Fall League not rookie ball, but you are correct. I didn't know AFL counted now. I shouldn't say now. I see that it has been in the rules 2 years and I'm just now noticing it. Good catch for you.

I'm intrigued by the Matt Boyd pick. I had read the reports of his velocity spiking by about 4 mph. Normally, I need to see those results for a full season, because when a pitcher does that suddenly, you wonder if he's not going to sustain that, or he's going to hurt his arm. I see that his career was delayed because of a mission for the church, so maybe this is simply a late bloomer, or someone finally finding their mechanics. Either way, I had enough interest that I would have taken a run at him in the 4th round. Should be an interesting draft and follow guy. Two guys in this draft (De Leon and Boyd) who were not even fringe guys when they sat at 88-90, but now both prospects with the sudden velo spikes.

I was shocked when the Dodgers took Verdugo as an OF instead of a SP. Then, when Keith Law said in February that he felt he had 1st round talent as a hitter, he popped on my watch list. Then, after Kiley McDaniel was raving about his bat speed and said he could land up in next year's top 100, I moved him up to the 3rd ranked OF on my board. He's got one of the most natural and refined swing mechanics of any 19 year old I've seen in this draft and already has a season and a half of pro ball under his belt. Just as with the Amir Garrett pick, I saw a steep drop off to the next guy at his position, so I traded up to grab him here. He'll need plenty of time and reps, but I'm willing to wait. 3 more picks to go, but I've gotten 3 of my targeted players already.

Like that Alford pick too. Lots of catching up for him to do, but I like the upside there.

Like that Alford pick too. Lots of catching up for him to do, but I like the upside there. Yeah I like the patience and speed combo he's already displaying. I am leaning on the scouts a bit here as they say the raw power is there and just hasn't showed up in-game yet. As with all of these picks, we shall see.

One thing that makes it easy to take a speculative pick with a high ceiling is the fact he's an athlete. Alford is an athlete and then some. That's where I see this post-steroid game going. Teams are drafting guys that are raw, but very athletic. That's what I'm trying to do with Barnes, Garrett and Verdugo.

Decided to go with someone who can jump right in and help me now with this pick instead of go 3-5 years away. I'm hoping he can hold his current role as SEA's closer.

Yeah, I missed out on picking him up in DMBO. I was too slow in trying to pull off a trade to get a pick. Cheap relief help will be nice. Now have Boxberger, Siegrist, C Smith and R Cook all in 3rd year or less in the bullpen. Although Cook is struggling in real-life. Putnam/Layne are pitching decent and signed cheap. I should have the majority of my bullpen locked in for next year already.

Josh Morgan is a gut pick. I could use some IF depth. He has a chance to stick at SS, and his bat control is insane for a 19 yr old in a full season league.
I don't know if I needed to trade up to get him, but I wanted to make sure.

I love Billy Burns, I was going to draft him at 2.20....but plans changed....you POS Ken Burns is going to be a really solid CF, great speed, seems to learned how to become a switch hitter fairly well, ive seen him make some amazing plays already in CF for the A's, and beat out some impressive infield singles. the fact he is able to hit the ball on the ground regularly will really help his game. Great god damn pick.

At this rate if we added another round to the draft as has been suggested we would be drafting and running revocable waivers at the same time.

Jon made the 1st pick on May 29th. This year's draft didn't start until June 9th. In 2 weeks we're halfway through the 2nd round. We were barely through the 1st round after 2 weeks last year. I'm sure we'll get quite a few picks off the board in the next day or so.

Just a reminder that pick 2.20 is now STL and 2.27 is COL Thanks. I've updated the pick list here and on my spreadsheet. With you and Brian trading those picks back and forth, I was second guessing myself.

Like Joe was discussing earlier, I had Peterson high on my list, but the closer he got to me the more I started to wonder what was wrong with him that he was falling to me. I started looking at other guys for the spot, I poured back over the stats to see if there was some key piece of information I missed and thought about trading out of the pick. Finally after some deep soul searching, I realized that the rest of you guys are just dumb.

I really hope my predictions are true and Zack Collins is the next Kyle Schwarber. I think he may have the most powerful bat in the 2016 college class. Although I think he has even less chance to stay at C than Schwarbs, I don't care. If he moves to 1B, then I just trade Freeman. In one year I'll either look like a genius or an idiot for picking him higher than any site has him ranked.
