Also, for what it's worth, I don't think the "can't draft the player who is picked after you messed up" rule was in effect back then. I think it went into effect soon after, but I could be mistaken. Sean cleaned up and expanded on the rules a lot around that time, and then last offseason I did it even more. So it may have come about at one of those two times.

Well, I was talking up Xander to Scott about a week or ten days ago. Right around the time that first pick was made. Didn't expect him to fall to Scott, and knew he wouldn't fall to me, so I saw no harm in talking about him. Maybe I'm reading more into it than what it was.

Ooh. This looks like a callout to me, and an epic one at that.
Best respond, Joe.

I remember that now, but I didn't at the time you posted. I'm getting old and my memory is going as my waistline is growing.

Burch Smith has a big arm. Pitching n SD he has a chance to post some good numbers.

I'm really upset. I had been following Burch Smith for over 9 months and had him first on my board at #20. I couldn't have expected him to go at #4 in my wildest dreams. I don't know what hurts more, seeing him go today, or having seen him go right before me. I like the kid and he would have been a nice fit in my stable of young arms. Grrrrr.

Like the Siemen pick. High on him.

Me too. He was one of the three guys I was considering with the first pick. Love the k/bb rate and potential power.
The other guy I was debating is still out there...

As a real life Pirate fan I have high hopes for Ramirez.
I was curious to see far a shaky stint in the FSL would drop DePaula. I think at least 3 people tried to draft him last summer. Unfortunately I am afraid that him dropping to the Marlins is going to cause me grief at some point in the future.

I get that nobody has to draft until their listed date...
...but going 7 days without a pick and without any explanation is a little bit sketchy. C'mon Jay. Get it done.

Well, it is the holidays. I know I've been traveling with family and wouldn't really be able to make a right now.

I can tell you that I won't pick until my designated day, Jan 15th. Just want to make sure I have as much info as possible as far as ZiPS is concerned.
Sorry to disappoint...

That is annoying. Ian is going to be welcomed into 2014 with the back of Jim's hand.

Only a -1? I'm almost certain that's like a -1 in cool points, awesome points, and consideration points. The Winter Draft is definitely where I want to be rounding out my playable personnel. Definitely!
Also, instant regret with my pick. I just couldn't see McMahon lasting until the summer draft. Yeah, there were better players available, but I wanted McMahon, damnitall!

I liked McMahon coming out of high school. No need to regret the pick.

McMahon was one of 3 players I keep shuffling in and out of the top spot on my list. You are correct that he most likely would not have made it to the summer draft.

Interesting. Admittingly I've done no research yet for the winter draft but I don't even know who this McMahon is.

McMahon was on my list, no need to regret that pick at all.

Velasquez had a nice year in his first full season back from TJS. I like him better than either of the Astros minor league pitchers taken before him but he also comes with more risk.
You also stayed away from the top of my list (unlike Sean) so I like the pick on two fronts.

Nice pickup of Karns. He should be cheap and useful right away. He is 27 for the 2014 seasons so I don't see him being useful after 6 seasons but I still like the pick. Your getting him right as he becomes useful.

I'm sure John has already pointed it out, but Urias is showing on the Dodger's roster.

I did not point that out. Haven't done anything with this in a few weeks. Thanks for the catch!

I'm not sure who to take I need help at so many spots. Do I go for future or best for this year. I have worked harder on making a list this offseason than any now I have too many to choose from. I guess that's not a bad thing

I know I'm the the one to listen to, but I say that you have to take the guy with the highest ceiling. Just my two cents...

I hope Katoh pans out. I think he has a very high ceiling.

Katoh was absolutely on my list. He certainly has the chance to be a special player.

I don't know if it's just me, but the last third of the picks has been very strong. Velasquez was #2 behind Burch Smith on my "realistic at #20" board. The picks after him are very strong too.

Its been a pretty good draft so far. I'm sad to see Tapia go. I was really considering taking him with my pick.
