Guys like Pallante can go either way. Throws hard with some control, but doesn't K very many due to pitch traits. Definitely on the radar, yet a little shocked he went this early.

Ugh. Zavala was one of the top guys on my list I was targeting for my next pick. Really nice pick, Nathan.

Nice pick Nate. Had him as my #1 target for Round 2.

My targeted guy still sat on the board for my pick, but when a 24 year old RP that throws 100, has a hammer curveball and gets a 115 ERA+ projection, plans change. I couldn't leave a player that will step right in to the pen this year. Hopefully my original pick will still be around next round.

Good try by Jim with the "mid December signing" crap lol. No way in hell Salas would have lasted this late in the 1st.

Good try by Jim with the "mid December signing" crap lol. No way in hell Salas would have lasted this late in the 1st. I wasn’t trying to deceive anybody. With 4 kids and job and community commitments taking more and more of my time, I bet I know less about baseball and prospects than anyone here at this point. This morning was honestly the first I even knew Salas existed, while reading some Prospect 1500 team reports, since Fangraphs is way behind on their minor league prospect reports. No need to be a D about it, or suspect I was doing something sinister. I will try to have a new pick in tonight. JIm

Ugh. Festa was one of the top two pitchers on my board, but my likely next target. Already hitting upper 90s, plus Changeup. Great pick.

I like Outman, but I believe he's ineligible, and tagged for free agency based on age. I did ask about him earlier in the draft, and that's what Sean had relayed to me.

I know I'm up. I may not have a pick in until tomorrow, though. I'm in no hurry. Take your time. I'm sure you can't draft all of the light hitting, slick fielding shortstops I have on my list. Can't believe I have turned into Ed Creech!

I was pretty sick last weekend, so I didn't get the chance to research more than I previously had done really. I did go through and do a quick look into draft eligible RPs that had good ZiPS. A couple had slightly above average, but with RPs being so temperamental, I didn't want to use an early 2nd on a guy who may only have one above average sim season in him.
I like everything I have read about Mejia. He's likely not a SS long term, probably moves to 2B or 3B before long, but I trust the Cardinals organization to bring him along correctly.
I wasn't really too keen on taking a second 2022 IFA this year. I wanted someone with a higher floor and closer to the majors. But, and I know I say this every draft, this league is getting better and better every year when it comes to drafting. It's impressive and infuriating at the same time. I track my prospects in tiers, with Tier 1 being hard targets. Basically that entire tier is gone at this point with the exception of one player. I was really hoping that someone like Festa, Barger, or Auer would fall to me in the 2nd. I had guys like De Paula, Zavala, Anthony, and pitchers Black, Brown, and Miller right below them. But all were guys I was targeting. Mejia really was a break-in-case-of-emergency guy on my list. I figured I had enough guys that I really liked more than him, I'd never have to pop him this draft.
But y'all are good. Damn good.

I went back-and-forth on this pick. There's a pitcher with 100 ERA+ ZiPS that should get a starter rating this year that I thought I was taking when I woke up this morning. But my mind kept wandering to Basallo... the last thing I need is another catching prospect, but if this kid reaches his potential, he's a future MVP candidate. Of course, like any 18 year old international prospect, he could flame out and never see above AA.
So I had two choices:
Option 1: Take the safe pick, the guy who can slot into the back of my rotation this year and save me money. But he moved to the pen at the end of the year last year, and will likely stay there from here on out. If I were closer to competing, he would've been my guy.
Option 2: Take a huge swing on a relative unknown. So much upside, but so much risk.
I literally changed my mind one minute before making this pick and switched to Basallo. Feeling a bit risky this morning!

I wanted to pair him with Ortiz, another Oriole I picked in last summer's draft. Well done and dammit

I had Jensen on my list, but I didn't think he would be taken this Winter. I had him as a follow guy for the Summer. It sounds like I may have underestimated the interest in him.

Love the walks and the power potential, but swing and miss issues like that don't usually improve as you move up levels. The potential is there, though.

Clarification before I pick:
Does Washington have Logan Allen (struggling arm in Rockies AAA) or Logan T. Allen (prospect for Cleveland)??
thank you

I keep reading about swing and miss issues but 21% k rate in A ball in his 18 year old season doesn’t match up.

I know this because I was angry when he got drafted. Because you were the one that drafted him, if I remember correctly.

Not quite it's the other Allen I got the failed project Allen in trade w SD and then traded him to DC as part of the A. Simmons trade. Joe conformed and I took this Logan T Allen earlier.

Yeah, when the Padres drafted him in Summer 2016, he was listed as Logan Allen - LHP - San Diego Org. That would make him Logan Shane Allen, who got a cup with Cleveland and also pitched in the Orioles organization and last year in AAA for the Rox. In this league he was traded to Miami in like 2019, who traded him to Washington a year or two later.
