I had Mervis on my list but not in my Top 3 or 4. So him going early just means I get more selection to second guess myself with for years to come and regret my pick*.
*see Marco Luciano over Julio Rodriguez, 2019.

He blew up last year, and his power is for real. As long as he can continue, he might slide into the top 100 this year, or be called up. 1B is open in Chicago, so it seems like he might move quicker, and hopefully the skills continue to show up. K rate and BB rate have been excellent as well. 105 OPS+ projection already. It'll either be a huge miss, or a good pick. I can take that risk. Fingers crossed.

Yeah I like Mervis, 1B is just about the only position I refuse to draft right now with Casas and Tork already in house. I hope Mervis becomes a star though and helps jumpstart the Cub rebuild.

Nationals select 1B Matt Mervis, Cubs Org. Let the chaos begin. I like this pick.. he's a now guy you can plug in and maybe he becomes a fixture for years to come. There's so many other "prospects" that drafted high and they never make make the bigs. Mervis has a chance and a path to be a starter for year to come as long as he can continue what he did last year.

Oscar Colas was definitely in my Top 3, and is probably the one that had the highest floor. Great pick, Tim.

I know I'm up. I had a guy all queued up, but I'm having second thoughts so I'm gonna think on it later when I'm not at work and can look over some things and make my pick this evening.

Colas, Vaquero, and Susana were my Top 3 for this draft. And on any given day I would give you a different order I preferred them in. About a month ago Susana was my #1 for awhile, then Colas was due to his high floor and decent ceiling, but lately Vaquero had been my favorite.
I'm happy to have gotten one of them, but I really worry about TINSTTAAPP. Susana may be one of, if not the, best 18 year old pitchers in the world right now, but there is a reason no HS RHP has ever gone 1-1 in the MLB draft. The failure rate is astronomical with them. But his ceiling was too great to pass up, I believe, so I had to take him.

All the picks so far are good with appropriate context applied.
1.05 - Detroit Tigers - Lazaro Montes - OF - Seattle Org 1.06 - Minnesota Twins - Roderick Arias - SS - NY Yankees Org 1.07 - Cleveland Guardians - Moisés Gómez - OF - St Louis Org
These unowned teams all needed pitching, but these players all seemed high caliber players and were good fits long term. I think it shows how important a pick like Susana could be given that most of the arms grade out in rd 2 of this draft.
Detroit and Minnesota will have a bunch of players graduate over the next 2 years. Cleveland needs bodies they can use now because they have a dearth of guaranteed money on the roster.
All 3 players were in consideration for everyone involved in the discussion.

I’m surprised Caminero was available at #8. I figured he would be one of the guys who would go to one of the unowned teams.
Nice pick, Travis.

Man, Sean... I was just doing research for my upcoming pick, and couldn't believe that Barger was out there. He was who I was going to take. On to the next guy...

I think he was available because he doesn't have the same upside as the guys that went before him. I expect him to be a nice utility with power. I usually have slappy utility guys and needed something different in that role.
I went safe. Barger has a reasonable floor and good (but not great) ceiling. If he's anything more than what I drafted him for, it'll be gravy.

I knew it was unlikely, but Barger was the guy I was hoping would fall to me. Good pick Sean.

My choice was between Barger, McCray and one other player.
In the end I am very thin on OF and Barger has a red flag I typically stay away from.

I had Barger on my short list before that article, but that article was what put him over the top for me. I've got two more guys that I'm eyeing. Hopefully I can get them both in this draft.

Lol, I would have sworn I was pick 20. I guess my eyes are going as I approach the big 50 this year.

I had De Paula at the top of my list for my next pick. The things being written about him remind me of the things they used to write about Yordan Alvarez when he was a young IFA.

I like the Mason Miller pick. He has a pretty solid floor of a reliever, but the fact that he has those two plus pitches, has missed a lot of time, and Oakland is still going to give him the chance to start, gives him a pretty high ceiling as well. Great pick for this point in the draft.

Great pick for this point in the draft. Thanks! My “realistic” board was getting devastated starting with John’s pick of McCray, then Hayes’s pick of Ortiz, then Auer and then Guitierrrez. As with any pitching prospect, health is the key here. I didn’t love that he missed time with a shoulder injury last year but but that AFL performance says he’s fully recovered from that

I like that Pallante pick. I threw him on my list last Summer when I found out about him. Figured I didn't want him then but I wanted to track him for this Winter or next Summer, depending on his ZiPS. He got a 107 ERA+ and is projected for 13 starts. That's a solid #3 SP projection as long as he gets a decent rating however OOTP rates how long SPs can go. Durability-wise.
Not sure I would have popped him in Round 2, but he was on my radar.
