Hey... you know I've been legit conflicted here. I have a guy I want and a guy my team needs (Asa) and the guy that I trust and is safer (Tork) to choose from. I've emailed you, Hayes, and Brian discussing it. Also texted Sean, Ty, and Connor. Plus talked to three coworkers about it. I'm hoping never to pick #1 overall again (unless via trade) so I don't want to Philly John it up.

Interesting draft factoid, in the movie Little Big League, the woman who plays Billy's mom in the movie is the real life mother of Pete Crow-Armstrong.

I really thought Joe was going to pick Lacy and I would end up with the best player in both the summer and winter draft despite picking 2nd.
I almost took a different player there but ultimately decided the big lefty was too good to pass up.

FRIENDLY REMINDER:
If you are at the roster limit (59 players), you MUST waive someone prior to making your pick. Each GM can post it themselves in the Waiver section of the message board.
Teams that are at or near the limit (as of Pick 1.06):
AT THE LIMIT: Chicago Cubs Baltimore Tampa Bay
Toronto
57-58 PLAYERS: St. Louis Arizona Cleveland Minnesota Houston Oakland
** Toronto was close to the limit, before trading away 5 players. My apologies. -Ian

There are 3 people picking before me and 3 players that are in my crosshairs. This should be interesting.

Nice pick on Vargas!
I went back and forth between Heriberto & A.Vargas. Went with Heriberto...probably because I’ve owned too many plus defending SS who never developed as a big threat with the stick.

If you had taken Vargas my #1 option was to trade down, and if that wasn't possible my pick was either going to be Hernandez or a draft guy I expect to be taken pretty soon.

Had four pitchers lined up with four picks to go until my turn. Was not shocked at all that Hayes and Jeff took Bitsko and Kelley. I figured they would because I know they aren't risk adverse. Wasn't sure about Jim, but with no minor league season he couldn't identify a Double A grinder to take this year, so I wasn't shocked when he took Crochet. So I was holding out hope that Rich would take someone like Bailey and not pop the fourth pitcher I was targeting. Thankfully he did. Cavalli was definitely fourth behind the other three on my list, but at least I got one of the four I wanted at this pick.

During the winter draft, I had two players I really wanted, RHP Yoendrys Gomez and OF Canaan Smith. Much to my surprise and the run of picks in the current draft class, I got Canaan Smith. I drafted Mitch Haniger years ago and gave up on him too early. To me, this guy is the LH version of him, with an even better eye and plate discipline. The kid can hit. Now to dream on some power, but 32 Doubles, 3 Triples and 11 HR as a 20 year old in the SALLY League bodes well.

May be gambling with taking Witt and might regret it if one of the other two guys I'm looking at goes in the next 3 picks, just wasn't sure he would make it to pick 1.28.

He was on my list but not until later if he made it that far since we know he won't sign now and is going to college. And he's too young to be a draft eligible sophomore in two years.

I'm surprised that Soderstrom fell all the way to me here. Thought for sure Matt would be taking him and leaving me to take my backup option.

1.30 Pirates select 1B Aaron Sabato, Minnesota Twins org (University of North Carolina). JIm That's gotta be the most grindery grinder I've ever seen! Well done!

I'm surprised that Soderstrom fell all the way to me here. So am I. That's a premium talent just falling into your lap. I thought about him at my pick but decided that high school catching is just too risky and instead went with the uber safe projectable high school RHP.

Did Joe just draft a nickel with a pick that had the value of a quarter?

Did Joe just draft a nickel with a pick that had the value of a quarter? Nope. A player viewed as a dime but is really a quarter. Two plus-plus pitches, another one that is plus. He only dropped because of his injury history, but Fangraphs had him as a Top 20 draft prospect. Even the MLB writeup talks about how good his stuff is, he just doesn't have a track record due to injuries.

I went with the guy with a probable better defensive position, but I heard Soderstrom compared to Will Myers. He's unlikely to stay at catcher cause it will slow his development. His bat will be far ahead of his glove.

I like the Beeter pick and agree with all that Joe said. Reports on his stuff were very good. Just a question of health and limited track record.

Even the MLB writeup talks about how good his stuff is, he just doesn't have a track record due to injuries. I guess it depends on which write-ups you want to believe. I tend to value Fangraphs a lot less than others do. BA has him at #58. He did have an 8.7 walks per nine in 2019. Though He did improved on that in a shortened 2020 (21 IP). And there is the rub with this draft, a little more risk than usual. He does have an impressive array of power stuff but he’ll obviously need to improve on his change (fangraphs doesn’t even like this pitch) to stay in a rotation. Combine that with the fact he’s had as many major elbow surgeries as quality starts in college (2) and the reliever risk is real. So yeah he’s more than a nickel but I’m not sure he’s quite a quarter 😜. Nonetheless, it will be fun to follow him as It will give us something to chat about when we actually get baseball back.

Just a heads up: if the draft makes it to me at 2.10 tonight, I won’t be making a pick until early tomorrow. I jacked my back up today and I’m taking Flexerall to help relieve the tightness and pain. This happens every couple years so I know the result will likely be an early sleepy sleep time for me this evening. Especially I decide to twist up a nice cocktail to pair with it. 😜🤘
Be well. Draft well.

When it's getting close to your turn, and the draft slows down... Is there anything worse draft-wise? Maybe when one of those you're waiting on then takes your guy. I'm not complaining; things happen, and I get it. I'm just impatient after refreshing the message board dozens of times since Brian picked

Damn it, Tim! I've been waiting suuuuuper patiently for like, 10 picks, to write Dingler's name in. And you have to go and ruin that.
When do the Angels play the Sawx next in the sim? Cause you can expect a lot of fastballs in the ribs!
