Love the sardinas pick been watching him for awhile.. i was going to take him with my last pick but i need more pitching .. and the haniger my not be an allstar but he has potential....he could end up as an every day outfield..i was hoping he would end up with me for the winter draft.. i have a few players on my list for the forth round .. just not sure who to pull the trigger on ..

Round 3 Favorite Pick: Pick 3.18 - Tim Anderson - Oakland Athletics Can't can't can't believe Anderson fell all the way here, and can't believe I was stupid enough to take Phegley expecting Anderson to fall to the top of the 4th round. Really good value here, wasn't as high as some on him entering the draft, but getting him this late is a coup.
Honorable Mentions: Nick Williams (3.14 - Chicago), Paco Rodriguez (3.06 - Arizona) Nick Williams has the upside and athleticism to be one of the best players in this class, although as many have pointed out, the swing and miss tendencies offer some pause. Paco Rodriguez was a really good pick as a guy who can be immediately slotted in as an impact reliever down the stretch for a team in contention like the D-Backs.
Round 3 Least Favorite Pick: Pick 3.10 - Nick Burdi - Houston Astros Drafting a pure reliever who is not sim-ready in the draft seems like a plan littered with red flags. It's not like with a starter where if the stuff doesn't hold up or consistency becomes an issue you can just shove them to the pen; if Burdi fails, he'll take a fast route to the land of non-prospects. However, I do see the allure of a guy like him, with two 70 pitches and success at the collegiate level, it could end up being a fine pick in the end, but drafting a non-simmable reliever is just not a strategy that I will likely be following.
Honorable Mentions: Luke Weaver (3.20 - Cleveland), Rio Ruiz (3.30 - New York) Weaver is a guy who I see as a future back end starter once he switches to pro ball, and with no pro data on him yet, I didn't see the need to take him before his draft year. Rio Ruiz is a guy I actually love, and has been on my close watch list for a while, but with the numbers he's put up this year, I think he could have easily been available with one of the Mets later picks.

I can't argue that point much. I actually planned to take a SS or a pitcher there but somehow missed Escobar being taken in the 2nd rd, watchedColorado snap up Cabrera and then Anderson, Sardinas and Peraza go off the board. I have one player on my draft board (that was for Jay) who I ranked higher but at this point in the draft it is so hard to guess who is going where that I decided to grab Ruiz a little early. The fact that he has really come on in June made me think he might start to look more attractive to the rest of you vultures.

Don't listen to him Hayes, I loved the Ruiz pick. He was on my short list for the last pick I had. It was him, Nunez (whom you also drafted), and one other guy.

Like the Mazaro pick. He was at the top of my list for my last pick.

For the first time since I joined this league, I am at the maximum roster size! Hopefully a few of those guys on the reserve roster pan out...
Of course, I selected Hader yesterday, then checked his line score from yesterday's start to see that it was one of his worst of the season. Guess he's a little disappointed to be taken by the Angels. Still, I'll take a power lefty with a sub 3.00 ERA. Walks a few too many guys, but hopefully that can be corrected. My hope is also that at 6'3" and only 160 pounds (according to baseball-reference), he'll be able to add another 20-30 pounds which could add another MPH or two to his already low to mid 90's fastball. At 19, he has time to trim those walks and master another secondary pitch. If he does, I've got a solid part of the rotation. If he doesn't, hopefully he can at least settle into a late-inning bullpen role.
Being a Tiger fan in RL, Thompson is a guy I've been watching since they drafted him last year. There isn't a big sample size with him yet, as he began the season injured after only throwing 7 games after being drafted last year. Still, I love the control and the 5.80 K/BB ratio. From what I've read, this kid is pretty projectable.

I also or too with two o's love the Davis pick if I didn't need pitching so bad I would have took him. I have four pitchers and two position players im looking at for the winter draft. Hopefully they are still there. Unless any one wants to trade some picks for Cabrera and or Burnett.

RE-SUME THE DRAFT!
RE-SUME THE DRAFT!
RE-SUME THE DRAFT!
Seriously men. Let's get Howard's trade though so we can get on with this action. It may look like he gave up a lot, but Weiters is having a bad RL season, and already being 5th, San Diego is going to have to LTC him after a real-life bad year. And even though Matusz used to be a big name, he's a full-time RP now. Certainly not bad that Howard is getting back a pick, and with his team only 2.5 back in the AL Central, nothing wrong with adding Damon for a stretch run.

I'm watching Patrick through my high-powered telescope right now. He looks available. Although he doesn't appear to be wearing pants for some reason. Just a shirt. ...And a belt.

Not singling you out, but the roster limit rules and manuevering around them confuses me.

I believe (and someone can correct me if I'm wrong), if you are at 50 you can make a waiver claim w/o cutting a player. If you get the player then you need to immediately waive a player to get yourself back to 50. I think we did it that way so that a team wouldn't waive a player in hopes of getting another player and if they didn't get him then they would have waived a player when they didn't need to.

When I sent in the claim for Alderson, I said to waive Bootcheck if I win the claim. I also said that if this isn't the proper way to do this, then to nullify my claim. Rich posted the Alderson claim, but not the Bootcheck waive. Not sure why. I'm not trying to pull a fast one on anyone, I swear...

If we ever do a NSBL Night where we get to meet each other, I'm absolutely taint-slapping Patrick first thing I do. Dude has 2 bonus days to research due to the trade holdup this weekend, then schlong-teases me by posting his first pick.
Now 6+ hours later, I'm still waiting for the 2nd one before I can make my next selection. So I'm heading to bed, but Patrick? Your taint is officially my property.

The Brian Dozier pick completes my draft, one that I didn't pick until the late 3rd round (3 times) and one 4th round pick. I traded for Danny Descalso late last year (for Doug Slaten) and decided to have him sit in the minors all of 2013. He's a LH hitter who is putting up a nice 110 OPS+ in a utility role this year. I picked Dozier because I like the glove at 2b and his approach at the plate. He's RH, so it would make for a nice platoon and depth for me going forward. After struggling horribly to start the year as the Twins starting 2b, he's OPSing .900+ in June and July. He's not a .900 OPS guy, but the bat is showing an unexpected pop and he's getting on base. It's a safe pick with a decent floor, but I didn't see anyone on my chart that won't be there in the winter draft.
The Texas Rangers draft for 2013
Tyler Jordan - SP Jose Peraza - SS Mitch Haniger -OF Brian Dozier - 2B / SS
I'm pretty content, given that I didn't start drafting until 3.22.

Ronald Guzman wasnt my number one guy for to long, it was another big bat guy. However I figured that if Guzman made it out of this draft and kept doing what hes been doing in A as a 18 year old. he'd surely be a high pick in the winter draft, despite his position. The only offensive concern for him is his bat speed, if that doesnt improve much hey may not hit for enough power to justify his position. But hes a very advanced bat for his age, hits great contact, takes walks, and is gigantic! 6-6 205 already. I hope to see Guzman consistantly hit around .300, a good OBP, and 20-30 HR's a year, No matter what his position is, that bat plays.....pretty well.
So for my draft I only had 3 picks. (Im scared for next year, I only have 1 as of now!) I ended up with 3 guys with pretty high upsides.
LHP. Rob Kaminsky OF. Nick Williams 1B. Ronald Guzman

1st round: SP Jeff Locke I don't want to pimp him too much, as I know one of my friends after me wanted him, but I was pumped to draft an NL All Star (and at least for now, Cy Young runner) with 22 guys being taken in front of him.
2nd round: SS Jordy Mercer May have been a reach, but I've watched him a lot, and he doesn't look overmatched at the MLB level. Was OPS'ing over .800 when I drafted him, but has fallen off since.
3rd round: SP Danny Salazar Might be my favorite pick, and his MLB debut yesterday certainly added to that. Hopefully help atone for some bad arms I've drafted in the past.
3rd round: C/1B/3B Yan Gomes May have been a reach, but I've never forgiven myself for not drafting Matt Carpenter when I had the chance. Love those unheralded multi-position guys that put up good numbers in limited time.
4th round: OF Kelly Dugan Former 2nd round pick has been under-the-radar his whole career, but had a great High-A campaign this year. Good frame.
4th round: SP Raul Alcantara Rarely draft younger, projectable guys, but really happy with this one. Not the K/IP I like yet, but nice VELO on the fastball, and a pretty ridiculous 8.3 K/BB at low-A this year.
Really happy with this draft,
JIm

For those who are interested, here is a round-by-round breakdown of this year's draft:

Post by raysgm on Jul 16, 2013 13:47:41 GMT -5
Round 4 Favorite Pick: Pick 4.07 - D.J. Davis - San Francisco Giants Can't believe Davis lasted this far. If I didn't have my head stuck in a hole, I probably would have taken him at 3.11 over Phegley, and definitely would have taken him over Hoffman at 4.06. Love the tools, and it's encouraging to see the tools maturing into production so early.
Honorable Mentions: Hunter Green (4.17 - New York), Kyle Smith (4.30 - Toronto)
Round 3 Least Favorite Pick: Pick 4.29 - Jin-De Jhang - Toronto Blue Jays This pick may make me look stupid in a couple years, but Jhang is just so far away, doesn't get rave reviews behind the dish, and will likely have to be a 1B if he can't stick behind the dish. I guess at the very end of the draft is the right time to take somebody like this though, so it's not all bad.
Honorable Mentions: Brian Dozier (4.14 - Texas), Zach Borenstein (4.10 - Kansas City) Neither can be called particularly awful picks in the 4th round, but Dozier has such a limited upside, and Borenstein gives me pause since he's 23 in high-A and plays half his games at Inland Empire.

I second this. Cool shit, Conner. Thanks for posting. Oh no problem, glad you guys liked them! I have the graphical breakdowns for every draft since 2009 (and an overall breakdown graph as well) if anybody is super interested in seeing those I can post them as well. I had some free time on my hands last week as well, so my latest thing I made was a career leaderboard for every player that has played in a game for my team since I inherited the team. If anybody wants to do something similar I could probably make a template for something of the sort pretty quickly (although it was easier for me because I have all my stats stored in an Excel workbook).
