Yup. It's a righteous pick. Carry on. Skip, if you're going to report on the league, you should learn the rules of the league. Otherwise, some GM is going to go Ozzie Guillen on you. He's just a little cranky since his wife Wanna was caught on film having sex with Peter Gammons and Skip Bayless. The film release is titled Industry Insider. So she was catching both ends of a Double Header?

I like the Nevin pick. He was #2 on my list of the three guys left that I really want. I had his dad years ago on my roster and wanted to be the first team in NSBL history to have had both the father and the son, I think. That may be why he was at #2.

Holy F%&#ing shit. A high floor pick by Connor. I figured I would see the Loch Ness Monster or Elvis alive before that ever happened.
Nice pick Connor!

I seem to make about one of these every other year or so! Tommy milone, Mike fiers, josh phegley, and Corey kluber are the ones I can think of. I had another player pencilled into this pick for about a week, but Anderson was next up (frankly, I figured he'd be gone). I watched his start today and liked what I saw, so I figured I'd take a chance and hope he can become kluber lite. Also, JIm can vouch that I don't always hate on high floor picks; Matt Duffy was tops on my board at the time of his selection, we had a long email discussion about him.

That's one reason I had to post. I thought he'd be gone by now too. Dude doesn't blow anyone away stat-wise but he gets guys out. It just seemed so un-Connor like I wanted to make sure someone didn't hack into your account. I'm thorough that way.

I like the Martes pick. Scouts have him as a fast riser. If I had one more pick in this draft, he was the target. If not, I was taking him this winter.

Happy I am done this draft, 18-20 hours between every pick is silly.

Happy I am done this draft, 18-20 hours between every pick is silly. My last pick is 4 picks away. At this rate, I'm not expecting it until Sunday. I know a couple of other people mentioned it, but I would be fine with shortening the window to an 8- to 12-hour period, as opposed to 24. (And I wasn't originally in favor of that idea, but watching the majority of GMs take 16+ hours to make their picks over the past round has driven me a bit batty.) And to make it fair, I would be cool with any GMs who lose their picks get to make them up at the end of the draft, just like I think we still do for the winter now. JIm

Happy I am done this draft, 18-20 hours between every pick is silly. I'm torn on this. The drafts are my favorite time of year. Maybe free agency will be up there now that Ian is taking over and I don't have to do it, we'll see. But right now, the drafts are. Because of that I hate to see when they go by too quick and are over. Then much of the league goes "blah" and participation drops to almost nothing. I like seeing the league, and owners, stay active. But at the same time, yeah... I want it to hurry. I am two picks away and I can't wait to pick. I want a 10-round draft with a 12 hour clock so we can draft throughout the entire season! I want to draft! I love looking for players and drafting them. The excitement of "one day this guy will be a star for me" totally makes me forget that usually they falter or bust. But when the draft ends every summer I think a lot of excitement leaves the league. Many owners checkout and... yeah. I'm torn.

Joe,
I think a simple solution to at least keeping league interest through the end of July is to sim more than a week-at-a-time early on, so that the NSBL schedule matches real life MLB's schedule.
And this really isn't the committee's fault. Every year, we get screwed because the sim disk is weeks or a month late, and so we're always behind. But for me, that creates a disparity between my real-life emotions as a fan, and my time here. I'm super-jazzed for the MLB Trade Deadline, but we're always so far behind here that I don't get the same excitement. Honestly most years, I even lose track of when the Trade Deadline is here.
I think if we simmed up so that the schedules matched, people's real-life excitement over their MLB clubs would be contagious to being buyers or sellers here. Maybe I'm dead wrong, but this would be an easy change to make that would not involve altering the structure of the draft in any way.

That might be a valid point, Jim. But since you made it I will dismiss it out of hand.
I always thought running the league on the complete opposite schedule of real life would be fun. We do our off-season stuff during the 6 months of real baseball, and then run our sims every week during the offseason. Keep the drafts where they are, but everything else would switch. This would keep baseball excitement going year-round. But that is too drastic a change to make. We'd have to go like 12 months without simming just to start that. Or sim seasons back-to-back to get ahead of the MLB schedule.

Simply put, I think most guys are so into fantasy football and the NFL that they wouldn't have the interest in watching games simmed over the winter months. JIm

Honestly, I used to be big into fantasy baseball and football, but since this league's inception, they just don't compare. They're too basic now. I've played in maybe 4 or 5 total baseball and football leagues combined since 2003, and it's just not the same.

WOAH. Colby Jack- get with the damn program!
When it's your turn to pick, you have to wait at least a good 12-18 hours and then pick! I don't know what type of stunt you're trying to pull here.

How about 3 picks in thirty minutes, bitches???
Been looking forward to drafting Houck. Gotta love a kid with a "1-1" tattoo on his wrist. Shows ambition, desire, and a certain level of cockiness that you need in an ace. But he does have the dreaded "Inverted W" that was scaring everyone a few years back. Is that still a thing? Or has the fear of it gone the same route as Myspace and Crystal Pepsi.

It would be curious to see the affect that had on free agency since we would (I assume) be simming behind the real life league and would have stats and an idea of how next season's player projection would look in addition to the current (just played) season's projection.

Yeah, we'd have the projection disk like 5.5 months in advance of the season so everyone could really study the numbers even before free agency, plus, like you said, we'd have a general idea of how a player was doing in real life and a better clue about how the next disk numbers would look too. Plus box scores year round. I'm a huge football fan too, but I miss perusing box scores every day during football season. We could even run the sims mid-week so we have football weekends and baseball weekdays. Plus months and months of test sims and second guessing and direction changing by Sean.

I know there are more highly rated guys out there, but I think Kyle Lewis is going to explode on the scene similar to what Phil Ervin did, but with more power.
He was a basketball player who also played baseball in high school, but in college has decided to focus on baseball only. He just finished his sophomore year with a 367/423/677 line with 17 HR. He's now leading the Cape Cod League in BA and HR. He was named as a second team all American after not being on any lists preseason. He also got invited to the college HR derby last week.
His plan for the offseason is to get better at using his 6.5s 60 yard dash speed to steal more bases.
I predict he becomes a top 25 MLB draft pick next year.
