Sierra was high on my list also. I wasn't too upset about the performance so far since I figured it would help him to drop to me. I had the same idea. I know that with his speed, defense and contact skills, if he was putting up even a respectable batting line in the Midwest league, he would've gone in the 1st 15 picks, no doubt. In fact, up until a couple days ago, I was still certain he wouldn't get to me. I had plans on taking someone else. I'll gladly take a shot on him bouncing back.

I saw too much "Danny Moskos" in Jay. As a Pirate fan in real life, that scared the shit out of me. And he may become that. But in terms of value right now, I think it's the right move. The player I was looking at could very well slip to the 2nd or 3rd round. He's a sleeper who is starting to make a name for himself. Those guys are always hard to gauge. But I could likely turn around and trade Jay for that player, plus something else, after the season.

If I wasn't able to trade up to get Amir Garrett, he would have been my target at 2.03. His falling is a classic case of stat scouting. He has as much talent and potential as just about any player taken in front of him. Getting him at this spot is a coup imo.

I like the Jay pick. He was the other consideration at my last pick and wouldn't have made it past pick 1.29.

Instead of stat scouting how about no scouting until after the draft has started. I didn't even have him on my list, but it has been that way with a few names drafted this year. Just don't have the time like I did a few years ago to prepare or desire to put the effort into it. Sounds like a good pick.

But, just in case, I'll sell you a screen shot of my draft board for Chris Sale and Miguel Castro.

Who has two thumbs and three of the Top 8 and four of the Top 18 picks in the weakest MLB Draft in years?

Just completed a trade with PHI for the pick. Joe has said to go ahead and make my selection. With pick 1.26 the Toronto Blue Jays select: Ruddy Giron, SS, San Diego Padres Organization This was my first big time "WHO?" in this draft... Dude is killing it. 18 yr old in A ball.

I'm giving the Kevin Newman pick my "sleeper pick" award of the first round. If the Pirates really can find even a bit of power in his bat by fixing his stance, I think we're looking at a potential .285. .345. .380 hitting SS that is a smart, baseball junkie that is simply a solid, yet often unnoticed asset. I see a little Marco Scutaro in this guy and I think that type of game is why Keith Law had him #2 on his draft board. Nice little pick up there in an otherwise weak class.

Tracy, you could have just titled your block: I am at my roster max and only have a few hours left before I have to waive someone so let me try to dump a crappy player on some schlub GM.

You're right I could have. But, since the two guys are as good as most of the players are on at least one roster (St Louis) I thought I'd see if anyone has any interest since they would be an improvement on what they currently have.

Let's be honest here, Joe Wieland isn't an improvement over anybody. I have 3 SP injured and I wouldn't even consider him.

Maybe Tracy was actually telling Mike that it is his "right" to complain about Tracy's crappy trade block.

Damnit. Cordell was my guy. He's the name I had typed before I put in Tyler Jay. I've been following him since late last season and I think he's a Ben Zobrist type. Tracy, I will come calling after this season to see what it would take to get him from you. Of course, knowing you, you'll ask for Gallo and Bregman.

I was thinking with his recent reappearance on the Fringe Five, he might go soon.

I was thinking with his recent reappearance on the Fringe Five, he might go soon. He was a guy I was looking at too. Tried a few times to trade back up to get him but couldnt make it work. I was surprised he lasted this long and when I saw the fringe five today I knew he was gone.

I didn't see him on the fringe 5, but with the Rangers A+ team being in Myrtle Beach the last few years I've followed their prospects more the last 2 years and was on him at the beginning of this year when they tried him at SS.
Getting to watch Gallo last year hit a 3-run and a grandslam in the same game was amazing. My son is a fan of his after seeing that.

So others are tuned in on the Fringe Five In the last year or so it seems like fangraphs has really tried to become a more complete baseball news source. Once they brought in Kiley, its been one of my go-to sources for cross checking my observations.

I actually rarely check the fringe five, just because I don't think they feature a lot of high ceiling guys. I just happened to have looked at it today and saw he was on it. I think Cordell will only be an average hitter, but if he can be an average hitter while playing possibly 7 positions, or even 4 (with at least 2 being IF spots), he's quite valuable.

Ryan Cordell was on the list of 7 guys I hoped to walk away from this draft with, but I did not have him as a 1st rd pick. At 23 and no AA experience I viewed him as a 3rd rd guy. I do like the odds of him being a useful player on the SIM.

Im hoping Raisel returns from his oblique injury with a BOOM. And Im also hoping his velocity starts to hold up over more than 6 IPs. If not, ill have another RP on my hands. But I need a safe pick that I can hopefully use next year.

He is a freak athlete, has a body built for baseball, and seems to be translating what I saw in practice and BP to games now. Not to mention he is an awesome guy. I'm rooting hard for him.
