Thanks. I wanted Gray, but when I realized that he was going number 1, I moved back from three with the hope that I could still land Stewart or Shipley. There was a third player that I began to think about yesterday, but figured I would stick with the college kid.
I don't have the best track record with drafting, primarily with pitchers. Deck McGuire is a huge blemish on my resume, and I do fear that Shipley could follow that path if he doesn't develop his curve. Thankfully, his other two pitches are good enough to where if his curve doesn't come, he could still find a home in the bullpen. McGuire doesn't really have any pitch that overpowers hitters.
Hopefully he'll get drafted by a team with a good history of developing pitchers, and I'll end up with a solid top of the rotation arm here.

Sorry I messed up the order of the Summer draft page, didn't think about about that when I was making posts. I just never really went back and looked at past drafts... primarily ones before I joined the league. Very glad that me predecessor took Jurrjens to see Gallardo and Longoria go with the next two picks

The fact that Frazier is a ginger, is probably his major weakness. And no way anybody can convince me that Trea Turner is older than 15 years old.

I thought pretty hard about Ball, but chose Shipley mainly because taking high school pitchers scares me. Hope I chose correctly...

I surprised myself with the Ball pick. I had no intention of getting a HS pitcher. After reading reports and watching some video, I'm convinced he's legit. Now don't blow your arm out!

Plus, if he does fail as a pitcher, he's supposedly good enough as an outfielder to get drafted as one.

I love the Gattis pick. I was wondering how long he would last. I would have strongly considered him if he was still on the board when I picked, even though I don't have a DH spot or have a need at C or 1B. He would've just been a great bat off the bench and DH during interleague, but I would have loved having him.

I honestly didn't know that Gattis was still available. I probably would've still gone with Shipley, but I definitely would've given Gattis a thought or two.
Very nice pick.

Feeling super lazy right now. I so badly want to go tell Howard to hurry up and make his pick, but I can't find the will power to get out of my bed and walk 10 feet to his room.

Then I had a friend who I told I would help move, so I was up early doing that. Now, I have a dinner/movie date in a couple hours so I am going to start getting ready for that. I should be able to sim afterwards though. If the sim isn't up tonight, that means the date went very well.

I almost went with Michael Cederoth instead of Glasnow. In fact, all three of those players were guys that I seriously considered (Dom Smith, Michael Cederoth, Hunter Renfroe).
Cederoth's arm is more electric than Glasnow's, but I preferred Glasnow's delivery. It also helps that one is in pro ball and the other needs to wait until the end of 2014 to be pitching at the same level.
I LOVE Dom Smith's swing, and I hate the fact that's he's a prep first baseman.

I LOVE Dom Smith's swing, and I hate the fact that's he's a prep first baseman. Agree 100%. Tell me something, Jeff...Why are reports so glowing about his arm strength, and why do so many people suggest he could start as a corner OF, yet it's a foregone conclusion that he'll be strictly a 1B before long? I mean, what makes scouts and evaluators so SURE that he can't play OF?

I mean, what makes scouts and evaluators so SURE that he can't play OF? A few reasons: -He doesn't have the speed to cover the necessary ground in OF -He looks MUCH more comfortable playing first base than OF -It wouldn't be surprising to see him grow physically A team might try to put him there, but I expect it to work out as well as the Jonathan Singleton as a LF experiment.

I'm glad Bickford fell to me. I actually had another pitcher higher on my radar, but that guy has less upside (but I sure as Hell will draft him later if he is still available). I'm not sure that Bickford has true ace potential, but with his size and a fastball that can reach 95-96, I think the upside of a #2 is worth taking here. I need some higher upside.
Bickford was also the youngest player taken in the first round this year (doesn't turn 18 for another month, and the studies about success rates for very young players who can get professional coaching that young are pretty interesting. Plus, I like how the Blue Jays are having a lot of their pitchers getting highly valued (in case I ever need to trade him, I want him worth as much as possible).

Like the pick, Joe, but I don't buy the age thing (especially for pitchers).

I like it more as a thing to use as a tiebreaker, and pretty much only with IF and OFers. I also think of it more as a general rule, and approach each player as a separate case.
With pitcher/catchers, the whole relative age thing isn't a big topic for me, as long as the guy isn't at one extreme or another, I'm probably just going to look past it.
That being said, Bickford is a good get, at the very worst, that power arm will be a good back end of the bullpen piece.
Matter of fact, I've liked nearly every pick since Oakland snagged Glasnow, and even liked the Winkler pick a bit as well, although he isn't my type of player. Dom Smith and Nick Ciuffo were both in consideration for 1.18 from me before I decided on trading down.

Maikel Franco was going to be my pick. I'm open to trading down if anyone has any offers before I pick tonight.
