So the MLB draft is roughly 10 days away and I am getting pretty excited to see how things shake out (both in real life and in our draft) and wanted to start a thread for any discussion.
Also, has anybody spent much time at college stadiums? I realized I live reasonably close to Stanford/Cal (and also SJ State/Santa Clara, but the MWC and WCC aren't quite on the level as the Pac-12) but have never gone to a game. Also live pretty close to the SJ Giants, but have only seen a few in my life. I know Chicago Matt and I once discussed going to some during the summer, but we never really made it happen. Classic.

college games. uhm, just one. Went to Texas A&M @ Nebraska. Zach McAllister was throwing a no-hitter until Alex Gordon broke it up in like the 9th. Nice park in Lincoln.
Maine isn't exactly a hotbed of amateur baseball talent. (sorry Ryan Flaherty, its true) so I don't typically try and go to college games here. I got to High School games a bit 1 - cause I work in one, and sever on the school board of the town I live in.. (plus they have a kid my daughter calls Cony Panda, cause hes wider than tall and players 3B)
its not good baseball.

Here in upstate NY, there's not much for college baseball, though I occasionally catch a game over at U Albany. Mainly I go to watch the NYPL Tri-City Valley Cats games when short season starts in June. On the topic of Maine, I think I've only heard of two players from there. Mike Bordick was a heck of a player and I also thought Jeff Locke (not so good) was from there or played there too. Maybe it was New Hampshire.

Charlie Furbush, Mark Rogers, Ryan Flaherty, Tim Stauffer, in recent years. Bordick went to UMAINE. Matt Stairs moved to Bangor area after retiring.. Stump Merrill was from Brunswick. Billy Swift was my personal fav Maine MLB player. the Butterfield name is pretty big in baseball too. ; ) but the list is not real long, and the careers even shorter.

I went to KU and regularly attended games when they had what passed for a team. All the draftable talent was on the other side. Saw Wichita State every year. Braden Looper popping 97 back when that was rarely heard of.
Not many options nowadays.

I live about 20 minutes from Vanderbilt. Every year I say I'm going to go to a few games, yet every year I fail. One of my students who just graduated is going there to pitch (if he doesn't get drafted; he tells me he's signing no matter where he gets drafted. We'll see.) Maybe he'll give me an excuse to get to a few games.

The start of this thread has prompted me to start shaking out my spreadsheets to look at how deep things have gotten as far as individual team top 10s. I tend to draft from first time available pool, but with so few picks, maybe I need to more closely consider minor leaguers... Sitting at #10, im not sure my initial targets make it to me.

Just to let everyone know it's unlikely that I make my selection early. I'm almost surely taking a college or minor league and I don't want to take a player 6 days early and then have them blow out their elbow or knee between now an then.

My great uncle Clyde Sukeforth was born and raised in Waldoboro (Maine) in the early 1900s, played from the mid 20s to early to mid-30s, and made some WWII appearances in 1945. The only manager in history to be undefeated in MLB (he was the interim manager for two games in 1947 when Leo Durocher got suspended for the 1947 season). He was also the scout who was assigned to sign Jackie Robinson, and later Roberto Clemente when Branch Rickey went to the Pirates.

This was not an easy decision. I went back and fourth several times between Mize and Bart trying to decide who to take. I was even hoping one might get hurt to make my decision easier. In the end, the rarity of top of the draft catchers and position scarcity along with the lack of any realistic catching prospect on my team led me to take Bart. I'm probably going to regret it, but if I'd taken Mize I probably would of regretted not taking Bart.

Well that made my decision so much easier. Had to take the pitching, who just happened to be the #1 on virtually every board.

No surprises here. It's like 1A and 1B, would you like the Beluga Caviar or the Kobe beef? As much as I like contending every year, my palate is craving an opportunity to have to make such difficult "menu" choices.

Hated all of these picks so far. Too many guys getting taken who I have no shot at getting at 1.29. Make more stupid picks and let the best players fall to me please.
Thank you.

Also, since I'm at my computer on avg of like ~10 hours a day, I'm going to start emailing people when it's their pick (I just sent one to Travis). I figured that the boards have been kind of quiet in the early going, and with the real life MLB draft being a week earlier than usual, some people may have their pick sneak up on them. Would be nice to have no missed picks this year!

I think Mize and Madrigal were automatic picks after I took Bart. I liked Madrigal, but I never considered him since I have Moncada as a 1st year player.

I think Bohm is one of the better auto-picks I've seen in a while, not counting where the committee leapfrogged guys. Power and patience and a history of success in wood bat leagues. If he can stay at 3B it will be even better.

If he can stay at 3B it will be even better. I was just thinking about how freaked out I would get if an auto-pick was the pick right in front of me and took my targeted guy. That said, it's absolutely the best policy for unowned franchises. We need to get that team an owner.

I think India has a lot of upside with the Reds. They have shown a willingness to push players to the left of the defensive spectrum. India could wind up a SS with a 3B’s bat.

Guess I sorta always knew Gorman wouldn't fall to me. But it was nice to dream on for a few days. I think he's Gallo Part 2, and everyone knows my man crush on Gallo is a real thing.

Well, the first player I thought I might have a shot to get went off the board in Triston Casas. My bold prediction is he will turn out to be the best overall hitter in this draft, so much so, that I was willing to use a first round pick, maybe even trading up, to take a 1B. That's not something normally done, but this kid is going to be a special one. I'm jealous.

12 hours between picks... wow, we are making that MLBSA single point of failure draft method look efficient...

Tracy is entertaining offers for the pick. That is one thing I like about NSBL over MLBSA drafts, you aren't locked into your pick 15-45 picks beforehand. So you can try reading it while on the clock... NFL style.

12 hours between picks... wow, we are making that MLBSA single point of failure draft method look efficient... It is a more painful year this year. We were just finishing up the first round by this time last year (4 days on the clock). Granted we had about 6 picks taken before the clock started but still this year is painfully slow.

NFL style. sure... im fine with that,,, but im bored at work and staring at my lists and crossing drafted players probably looks more like actually working. playing fortnite all day, doesn't look like work... thats what I've had to do to pass the time...

Sorry for the delay. I've been outside gone all day. This was the first chance to sit down at the computer to make a pick.
