With the 17th pick the Seattle Mariners select Andrew Knizner, Catcher out of the St. Louis Cardinals Org. Very nice pick.. I was hoping he would make it to 27

He was on my list also but without a 1st rounder it was wishful thinking.

I’m gonna hold up the draft...
I have a guy I think I’m gonna pick, but I want to check on a bunch of names still.
It’s also my wife’s birthday tomorrow, so we’re kinda non stop today running around then dinner later. So I won’t get a chance to research until late tonight or very early tomorrow maybe enough by.
Sorry.. (not sorry)

Still have a lot of people here for my daughter's birthday party. I probably won't have my pick in until late tonight when I work on the sim.

Peralta was a really nice pick. I was hoping he would have stay under the radar longer than this.

I like the Peralta pick. He was definitely on my radar after missing out on him in MLBSA last year due to my mismanagement of draft priorities. Everything I read on him says back of the rotation arm that tops out in the 90-91 range that just gets by on sidearm deception, but it'hard to argue with the results he's gotten this far.
He was definitely one of two pitchers with better results than scouting reports I was keeping a close eye on.

I went back and forth on Bieber and another player and until I saw Kiley and Eric at FG rate Bieber as the #64 prospect, wasn't going to go with him. That said, I felt like Alonso was the best bat to trade up and get and they ranked him #73 today. To land 2 top 75 prospects in two days really helps my farm, as does the newest entry at #53, Chris Paddack.

Paddock was someone I targeted two years ago in MLBSA when I was rebuilding. I was able to get him without much fight due to his - at the time - recent TJS. Glad I did now, he's back like he never lost a step.

Glad I did now, he's back like he never lost a step. I remember we talked about that. It seems like I've owned him for so long, but patience and refusal to deal him will pay off. He seems so far away, but I would think they'll keep his outings to 5 innings this year and then promote him to AA at the end of the year. I could see him on the Joey Lucchesi path, where he's a pro after one season of AA and a handful of AAA starts.

I believe St. Louis will auto-draft Ryan Weathers and thus Oakland is on the clock? Confirmed.

I am unfamiliar with this auto-draft even though I am not interested in utilizing it. Can anyone explain although I guess it is a bit self-explanatory.
thanks

St. Louis is un-owned (so it's run by the committee), and the way it works in the draft is that the committee takes the highest drafted player who is not currently owned (in this case Ryan Weathers, at #7 overall), UNLESS there is obviously a superior player available (I believe the committee used this right in the winter to draft Leodys Tavares last year) EDIT: Joe/other committee members, feel free to move this discussion to the discussion thread instead of the draft thread.

Its not so much that the committee will jump to pick a "clearly superior player" but more that if the next player is at a position where the team if already loaded or if the next player is clearly a signability choice.

Yeah. We skipped Dylan Carlson a couple years ago for that reason. He wasn't a bad player, but he was more a 4th round talent but the Cards picked him in the 1st round so they could sign him to an underslot deal and sign other guys to overslot deals. I think there was another team before that all their auto-draft picks were turning out to be shortstops, so we made a choice to skip the last one or two and take the next pitcher instead.

So will STL draft Tebow in the 2nd round? He would really solidify that offense.

Pick 1.29 has been traded to NYY. He should be on the clock once we get committee confirmation.

Interesting dynamic with this year's draft compared to last year. There were no clear cut minor leaguers available this year unlike last year. The first prospect taken this year was not until 16th. Last year we had 4 in the top 10 even with a bigger pool of players to go #1 overall from the college ranks.

I was hoping to take Hampson at 2.9. Santana was a guy I was looking at too but worried about the shoulder.

I was looking at all these latest picks. I almost took Hampson but could not turn down a LHP doing well in AAA. I saw Hampson play a couple times here in Hartford, actually thought he looked better than Brendan Rogers.
