Has the idea of having guaranteed-contract players clear waivers to be sent down to the reserve roster ever been brought up? Like they're out of options? Not sure if it's ever been discussed and shot down, but thought of it yesterday as I'm in the lull of post-free agency and pre-disk release.

I think the topic comes up every year or two.
Personally, I'm fine with keeping things status quo. It would make things more realistic, but I don't think it would add to the fun at all. It would be a bear for the Committee to track, which has to be considered. Plus, if you look at rosters around the league, few GMs stash more than 1-2 V contracts there at all.
I think since our reserve rosters are limited- even though they've been expanded- that somewhat neutralizes not using player options. It's like, "Okay, if you want to waste roster spots and cap space by sitting veterans on your reserve, feel free."

Yeah, you're right, we've talked about options. I guess I didn't think of that cause I wasn't thinking that complex. Just if you have a guaranteed contract player (4th-V) and you want him on your reserves, he would have to go through waivers first.

I'm not opposed to moving in this direction, but I think it's a pretty clear step towards a 40 man roster setup. And to echo the great Big Daddy Kane, ain't no half-steppin'.
