This Colorado/Chicago(N) deal is now complete. Parameters of the deal dictate that Chicago receive Colorado's 3rd round pick in 2016 but because Brian was a naughty, naughty boy and traded that pick away Chicago will instead receive Colorado's 2016 2nd round choice. Let this serve as a lesson to all GM/owners. Ha ha!

Is that lesson "don't make complicated conditional deals with Joe because we know he is trying to mess with your head?" That's what I took away from that deal.

The real lesson to this story is to build a better bullpen before the season starts. That and Joe likes combing ponies in his spare time.

I never actually realized there was a separate trade "smack talk" thread until now, despite me apparently having participated in it.
The only new thing I have to add is that I hope Sean at least made Brian buy him dinner first before their trade.

Administrators have the ability to move posts to different threads if they don't belong in another. I've done it two or three times. Just last month I moved draft commentary from the draft thread to the discussion thread. I am guessing Hayes did it. Thanks Hayes.

That's what I figured happened, but wasn't sure so didn't want to assume.
I l.o.v.e. the idea of a Trade "Smack Talk" thread, and expect this will become one of the more heated parts of the board.

Joe is correct. I didn't want the trade threads to get cluttered up but wanted to save some of these posts for posterity. This seemed like the easiest solution.

I believe Wil Myers to be worth it. Besides, I'm sure Brian's nuts taste better than the Digital Tanaka all up on Joe's face.

Philly John is certainly attempting to field the worst fielding team in the history of this league

Third round pick for Jonny Gomes, huh? That's.... special. And not just Jonny Gomes c. 2010. This is -0.5 WAR, expiring contract, currently playing in Japan Jonny Gomes. This was just unacceptable from both sides. JIm

Between this one, and the wade davis/mitch moreland trade he made with detroit last year...Cant say I blame him...but damn.

That Houston/Minnesota trade would've been a blockbuster about 5 years ago.

John,
You have to stop trading away your draft picks for next to nothing. Over the past week, you've dealt 3 of them for a small amount of cash- which I don't even see why you need- and a negative WAR OF in Jonny Gomes. Joe's recent file has you $1.344 MM over your cap, and you could save $1.3MM of that simply by starting the season with 3rd OF Avisail Garcia on your reserve roster and an XXX OF in his place. Part of the reason your team is always terrible is that you rob Peter to pay Paul- trading away your picks for short-term solutions that do next to nothing, so you can never rebuild.
Tracy,
After this many years in the league and 3 World Series titles, you need to set some fucking standards for yourself. Everyone here knows that John will give away draft picks for almost anything, but *most* of us know not to go to the well, because John has been here forever, and we're tired of seeing his team be shitty and want him to improve. It's like, yeah, if you have $20 burning a hole in your pocket and go to the right part of town, you can probably find yourself a handjob. BUT PEOPLE DON'T DO IT, BECAUSE THEY HAVE STANDARDS.
What you and Mark have done over the past week is the equivalent of knocking over a kid in a wheelchair, and then smacking him in the face with a JC Penny catalog. Out of respect for yourself and the league, you both need to rescind that bullshit trade immediately.

Basically what Tracy did is send out an email like you get from the Iranian Prince who wants to give you a billion dollars if you give up all your personal information. You would think everyone would be smart enough to mark it as spam and move on, but no, there is always one idiot who gets taken by the scam.

Trade from 3 weeks ago:COL receives STL 4th in 2016 (pick 4.16) STL receives $5 M Trade last night:PHI receives: $8.400 M in 2016 TOR receives: 4.27 in 2016 4.30 in 2016

So the value of 4th rd picks went up(even when the pick is lower in the round). Gotcha!

Could you describe the extensive math calculations done to show you paid more on average for a 4th rounder than Brian did?
Save us the time, you're just going to backpedal and deflect the argument as much as possible no matter what the facts are.

It's not like there is anyone out there worthwhile to spend on. This type of stuff is like clockwork, every winter Toronto, Tampa, and Texas hit up either Philly or NYY (or both) in lopsided deals. To be fair to Connor, though, it hasn't happened this winter (yet) with him.
