Hello,
A few of us GMs always remark how dead the league gets at this time of year. Personally, I think a lot of it is unavoidable. Fantasy football starts up, which doesn't appeal to me, but I know most guys my age are huge into it. School starts back up, so GMs with kids are more pressed for time. And I think the biggest factor is that GMs with teams out of contention can't do much now, since the July 31st trade deadline has passed.
With that being said, I do think the waiver trade period needs to be tweaked to make it more accessible and successful.
1. The 2-day trade window is very limiting. Usually by the time I even realize I've won a claim, already at least a day of it has passed.
2. Having the claim period end Tuesday night and trade window W-Th is confusing. Every year (usually a couple times a year), I forget which days it is, since they're right in the middle of the week.
So I'm proposing the following changes. I mentioned them to Joe, and he liked the idea, and suggested I posted them here:
A. Have the waiver claim period run Saturday-Sunday of each week. Lists of players can be posted Saturday morning, and GMs can claim them until Sunday night.
B. Once claimed, GMs have Monday-Friday to work out a trade with that team. A 5-day window is a lot more realistic than 2 days. This will also be an easier time frame to remember than 2 arbitrary days in the middle of the week.
Claim period = weekend Work out a trade = during week

My only issue with this is that I'm not on here as often on the weekend as I am during the week.
Which is a little ironic, since I'm posting this on a Sunday...
