Congrats to nobody for the World Series win - this year we humans take back the title!
I am committed to running the sim in OOTP again this year. Felt like this year was a good experience, once we got past all the rush to get going. Would love to see us build up the league from this point.
***Need to recruit someone to handle Free Agency - we have someone that can give instructs to track the process. I'll be busy with Rosters and don't want to burn out.
Events: 2024 Roster rollover - need to update rosters to the new year, calculations, arbitration and setup FA. This is on me. Will be done mid-FEB.
Winter draft - We should start Monday Feb 5 with a 24 hour clock. Need to finish before the disk comes out. Drafting to the disk is not fair/reasonable option. Will post draft order soon.
FA - I'd propose we do Tier 1-top 10 around March 4 and the later tiers about 2 weeks after the disk comes out - since they aren't directly Zips projections. Seems more fair for 1-2 year deals to be based on actual projection and the multi-years to be on bigger picture. And we aren't getting it done before the disk comes out. Trying to schedule outside Spring Break.
2024 season start around May 1. Which is still better than 2 months earlier than last year.
OOTP vs DMB - I posted a discussion on the forum at the start of playoffs. The majority of posts leaned OOTP, and we'll assume non-posters are ambivalent. Given the need for someone to step up and handle DMB and creating more work than OOTP, it's hard to go back. Will need to post new recruiting attempts on forums.
website - would be nice to do more to update. I did a very bare minimum, and decided to stop there depending on the season outcome. I'd like to put more work on, but don't see me getting much done before July. Just being realistic. I have ideas, just need the free time.

I read it as 5 to 4 that had more issues with OOTP than DMB. I’m still in the trying to decide whether I want to mess with it if we are using OOTP moving forward. How will the process look for free agency? I assume still bidding on the board? Nothing changing on that front?

Yeah, I am out if we move back to DMB. I was barely playing the last few years that we used it, and I don't want to do that to the league again.
And I like the free agency suggestion.

This league is now a microcosm of America. Sadly, division has sunk its teeth into our little game as well.
I’m not sure if I’m coming back if we stick with OOTP. I’d like to think I will but my team made the playoffs without me submitting a single roster. I don’t think that can be considered a good thing.

I'm coming back. There are things I like about both programs. Mostly, I like the friends I've made here. Baseball helps me stay in touch with them. I'm also understanding that this hobby might not be what it used to be.
For anyone that reads this and is choosing to leave based on OOTP vs DMB, I just want to say thanks for being a part of something that has enriched my life for over 20 years. I hope everyone chooses to stay. If not, I hope those that leave choose to stay in touch.
Brian made the playoffs because he built an undeniable roster. I want for that someday LOL.

Echo these thoughts almost exactly. As the years gone on I've had less and less free time for the league, but I appreciate everybody that has been here for helping maintain what has been a wonderful hobby and great support system for me. This league has helped me develop from a 16 year old boy into a now 31 year old boy and that's a credit to all the people who have been a part of it. Regardless of if you choose to stay or leave, just wanted everyone to know that you've been a big part of my life and I'm appreciative of that. /end soppy airport rant I would like to win the World Series one of these days!

I'll clarify that I won't leave if we go back to DMB, mostly for the reasons Sean said. But I will likely not be as active as if we stuck with OOTP, simply because logging in to the program and sending out the files are kind of a pain in the ass.

Using OOTP for a year has made me miss the simplicity of DMB- I understand that frustration. For those considering leaving, just remember that the change was less about the league deciding to do so, and more being forced into it because the Diamond Mind disk came out later and later. It's tough to build momentum for a league that isn't even starting until June due to the late releases.
Travis, how much control do you have over what we see in OOTP? I've noticed the menus/layout are a little different when I play OOTP with NSBL here, vs when I load it for MLBSA.
Maybe if we can eliminate or minimize some of the excess of OOTP that isn't needed for our sim, it will be closer to the DMB experience people grew to enjoy.

Jim - I hadn't seen options for me to control our views. But I haven't ever looked for that. Interesting thought.
Trades - I don't see why not. It'll just be a buyer beware situation- you won't have an exact number for salaries. I've done what, somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 the work. Looking for some free time the next 2 weeks. Sunday there's this silly game on TV.

Is the roster spreadsheet on the homepage updated to end of season? Just making sure as I am searching for a player to draft as my turn approaches.

Travis is in the process of preparing the 2024 roster, but the 2023 roster is up to date for the end of the season. It will include all players except for the ones taken in this Winter Draft.
