ROY HALLADAY - SP - Baltimore Orioles - Class of 2017A two-time World Series champion, two-time Cy Young award winner, and five-time All Star, Roy "Doc" Halladay played 9 seasons for 8 teams (BAL/CIN/CHC/HOU/CLE/COL/TEX/AZ), starting as a 29 year old in 2006. Halladay was a model of consistency, finishing top-5 in Cy Young 6 times in his 9 year career, including a five year stretch where he finished 2nd-3rd-5th-1st-3rd between 2007 and 2011. Between 2006 and 2013, Halladay threw 180 more innings than anybody else in the NSBL, won 8 more games, and threw 13 more Complete Games. Halladay led the league in Innings Pitched six times, most remarkably in 2009, with the Orioles, when he threw an absurd 17 complete games, throwing 265.1 IP in 33 G (averaging just over 8 IP per start). In 2011 he won his first World Series, going 15-8 with the Orioles, throwing 8 CG and 267.1 IP with a 3.27 ERA. The next year he bounced around as a hired gun, ending up with the Rockies, where he won his second World Series. 2013 was his last great season, winning the Cy Young with the Cincinnati Reds going 14-10 with a 2.60 ERA in 242.2 IP. He played sparingly the following season and retired shortly after, wrapping his career with a 124-81 record, 3.31 ERA, and 57 CG, 15 SHO, and 1556 K in 1987 IP.

I lost Halladay to injury early in Game 4 of the 2007 World Series. He had already won Game 1 and I planned to bring him back for Game 7 too. If he he stayed healthy I think I win that series. I would've won Game 4 or 7 with him going strong in each game. Instead I lost both.

When I was finally starting to put together a contending team the players that I wanted most/scared me most were Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Troy Tulowitzki, Chase Utley, and Travis Snider. Think at least most of those guys were on BAL/TOR at one point or another, but whenever any of those 5 names comes up I have a visceral "little brother" feeling, it was as if I felt as though I would never be able to build a roster to compete with those guys.
