MARIANO RIVERA - RP - Atlanta Braves - Class of 2017Mariano Rivera played 9 seasons in the NSBL with 6 teams (ATL/CLE/BAL/CHC/MIN/TOR) and was one of the premier closers throughout his entire career. He finished in the top-10 of Reliever of the Year voting 7 of his 9 seasons, winning the award twice and was voted an All-Star 4 times as well. He had the 3rd most saves in league history when he retired after the 2014 season, only 6 behind Huston Street for the record at the time. A symbol of longevity, Rivera finished with an ERA 10% better than league average every season of his career but 2 (in 2010 when his ERA was 4.23 but his FIP was 3.53, and his age 44 season in 2014 when his ERA was 4.08 but his FIP was 2.61). He wraps his career with a 56-40 record with 223 saves and a 2.78 ERA in his 584 appearances.

Mariano is behind Huston Street? Bizarre world... Well now he's 4th (223) behind Huston Street (257), Francisco Rodriguez (253), and Jonathan Papelbon (228). This can be explained by the debut ages: Huston Street - age 22 Francisco Rodriguez - age 24 Jonathan Papelbon - age 25 Mariano Rivera - age 36 A handful of current players in their low-mid 30's will potentially pass these guys int the coming years: Craig Kimbrel - 210 saves Kenley Jansen - 175 saves Aroldis Chapman - 156 saves Zach Britton - 156 saves

I have him down as having 89 saves. His first season was spent as a starter, though, and now the sim loves pulling him with two outs in the 9th and giving the save to some cuckold like Shea Spitzbarth or Addison Russ.

I knew what I was doing when I grabbed Huston Street as a Top 10 pick to be a Closer for me. He better go into the Hall as a Cubbie!
