This wasn't an easy decision. I legit went back and forth between Luciano and the likely #2 pick for the last several months. Hayes and I have exchanged emails over the topic. But in the end, I just felt Luciano had a higher ceiling when it came to power and has a chance to become one of the best couple players this next decade.

Loooooove when my 2nd biggest NL Central rival drafts a raw, 17-year old Dominican who struggled upon his promotion to Low-A. That means my top two grinders only have to survive another 28 picks before I draft in Stud Position at #30.
I will worry about Luciano around 2023.......if he makes it that long.
Muhahah,
JIm

Hard to say anyone struggled over a 38 PA sample
Happy to have Julio Rodriguez but had been operating under the belief that I would be drafting Luciano and mostly considered him one of my prospects at this point.

We can likely blame the Fangraphs schedule of prospect team lists for this. If they had done the M's and J-Rod's write-up looked like Luciano's did, I probably would've taken J-Rod instead.

Hard to argue who is #1 or #2 here. I think it's more like 1A and 1B. The best IF v the best OF. Personally, I think JR is an absolute stud and will be a star in the game, but I would never argue with anyone who has selected the best IF in this, the last draft, or this summer's draft. That's coming from a guy who drafted Perdomo too, so it's unbiased opinion. I could show bias against Joe too. After all, he mocked my Josiah Gray pick last summer. Yeah, I haven't forgotten that commish.

I don't think Luciano stays on the infield. Seems most prospectors are already penciling him in for the OF so I'm good with that.

This is the quote I liked coming out of a McDaniel Chat
12:43 Balboni’s Bat: Does Julio Rodriguez have a chance for 65 FV this summer?
12:43 Avatar Kiley McDaniel: No, but chance for it in the next 12 months

I rather like that Matos pick. I had him in top ten off the board, but, after the first two picks, I think you could shuffle up the next 6-8 picks just about any way you like and be fairly happy. Good to see Nestor deliver with the pick in that spot.

I like the Matos pick also. Wasn't sure he would get noticed with just a handful of US AB's last season.

Four teenage, 6-finger Latinos on the board; all older grinders still remain.
Keep it up, boys. This is progressing swimmingly.

Speaking of lobster, is there any left? I wanted to get lobster for New Years Eve but it was $15 a lb. WTF?

Speaking of lobster, is there any left? I wanted to get lobster for New Years Eve but it was $15 a lb. WTF? tariffs caused a real problem for Maine Lobster Fisherman this season, so they cut "production" and jacked prices. The boats stayed in port. We were right around $8.99 a lbs most of the summer in the grocery stores. Hard to believe that there was a time when lobster was considered so foul that is was the main meal served to prisoners in jail. Now, it's so revered that it's almost worthy of committing a crime for.

Continue drafting raw Latino teenagers 4-5 years away from the show, while at the same time pouting about the MLB “talent disparity” between teams. It’s all good. My soul feasts on irony. Xoxo, JIm

Meanwhile, I’ll just keep building teams internally with my grinders while you supplement large chunks of your roster with free agents, beside these guys with all their sexy tools scouting reports are crazy gambles. I love it. Keep doing it, JIm

Now that Thad Ward is off the board, I can actively root for everyone to make terrible picks for the rest of the draft. In case you didn't know, Thad Ward fucks! (apologies to guys with sensitive ears, I try to keep it a minimum)

Oh, man, I took an RP in the Winter Draft. I've been so well behaved! I just couldn't resist. WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF!
Also, I love Clase. I can't wait to regret this pick in 18 months.
