I like 95% of the stuff NSBL does far, far better than MLBSA (for those of you in that league).
With that being said, I really like the setup of their "Winter Meetings." For those of you not a part of that league, rules change suggestions that come up throughout the year are then presented, each in their own threads. Discussion of each change takes place in that thread for a couple of weeks, and then they change each thread to a poll, allowing all GMs to vote on each issue.
Watching it play out for the first time (I wasn't paying attention last year during my first year in that league- shocker I know), it seems to add a really nice layer of openness and collaboration. Plus it makes the down time after the World Series actually pretty interesting.

Or, you all could just come to Nashville, and we can get wasted and pretend to talk about baseball.

I'd rather get wasted than collaborate. I'd also prefer not to be in Nashville. I'm going to skip both Nashville and collaboration.

Please don't hold the Winter Meeting in MLBSA as an example as a process that works. Winter Meeting only work in environments that aren't opposed to change, have GMs willing to approach issues from a point of view outside their own teams circumstances AND have more than 30% GM activity in those meetings.
the voting / poll thing is a nice touch, but leagues aren't democracies.
But if you want something to talk about. ok. "All transactions are done via forum post." there ya go. winter meeting it up.

That’s a fair counterpoint. I did notice that almost all of their votes were simply in favor of keeping things exactly as they were.

Joe and I combined forces on what we thought was a solid change for the MLBSA a couple years back. Voting was close, but... when there wasn't 30 votes total, the EC shut it all down, no matter that we had a majority to make the change. Even if all the absent votes had voted for the other side, we still had a thin majority... shut down.
I am very much in favor of Winter Meetings, but it really does take a lot more input from the silent masses, and less input from the commissioner's office.
There are some topics, like the Opener and how they will be handled, that do have impact on leagues, even those using projections, that should be discussed. OR, if MLB implements rule changes that aren't addressed in an update to DMB software. Like the limits on pitching changes.

Maybe the real topic of the winter meetings this year should be the implementation of a better offseason discussion system. I do feel like a lot of ideas just talked about on the board without the committee being able to tell us anything about a decision or even a discussion. It just ends up being "silence = no" until something gets said at a later date. It might be time to find out exactly how much participation we have. I know I'm an inconsistent contributor simply because I don't think it matters very much. I know that there are others in this league that disagree with me, but I don't ever actually hear anything from the voices that make decisions. I like debating with Jim, but I actually give zero fucks about his opinion. Because his opinion matters as little as mine in the grand scheme.
Before the season ends, the non-commish (or non-simming) committee members should probably have some meetings prep done. There should be a process where topics get addressed. Whether the topic gets tabled for 1-2 seasons or a change gets made, we should want there to be documented discussion and progress that shows an end result even if it's "not right now."
