So who is drafting right now? What type of league's do you play in and how does your team look?
I am in 2 pay league's on Real Time Fantasy Sports. I am also in 3 free leagues and trying an Ottoneu keeper league for the first time. I'm at a crossroads with my leagues. All my old friend and co-worker leagues have slowly faded away so I'm forced to compete with strangers.
I do the slow draft option on RTFS and both just finished up. Fantasy Pro's gave me the kiss of death A+ rating in one league and an A- in the other. They don't like my pitching as much in the second league. I have set up my rating system similar to what they do so their results match up to mine. It worked last year (4 for 4) so hoping things will work out this year as well.
I play in free league's in ESPN and CBS, mainly for the extra player data and testing of new systems for future years. Both are autodrafts, ESPN is done while CBS is later in the month. I already dislike my ESPN draft, at least on the pitching side. My offense is overstacked so I'll be chasing K's and SV's all year. Already know that system is not good for pitching LOL.
Ottoneu is a trial balloon for a keeper league. Already might be DOA though. Live auction draft next weekend and I'm going to be busy for some of it so I might be done with this league before it starts.
I have also signed up (for the first time) with the Reddit fantasy baseball league. It sounds cool, built like the British Soccer system with winners moving up to more competative divisions each year. I want to make it to the top division and compete with a couple "experts" I know about through projection systems and podcasts. I dont know if I will have the patience to play through the years it will take to get that far.

I'm interested in starting a Tout Wars Mixed type league with an $260 auction/23 players (Draft tenatively scheduled next Thurs night). 5x5 with OBP instead of AVG. Almost everything follows Tout rules as best i can. www.toutwars.com/?page_id=5085 Hosting on ESPN. If you might be interested, let me know. Also, Michael, i'm interested in this Reddit league. I've always wanted to figure out a way to do something like that in Football, but tough to get enough people to stick with it. Can you send me some information or a link to the page, i'd like to check it out.

The leagues are set up on Reddit.com The SultansOfStats subfolder. You can also look for info in the FantasyBaseball subfolder on Reddit. My league is drafting now so not sure if the 2017 league's are full or not.

I'd love to do some type of auction draft. Did one several years ago and had a blast.

I haven't played much fantasy baseball since I joined this league. I think I joined a league or two back in like 2009 or so, but they were free ESPN leagues I think. Don't remember anything about them really and I haven't played in another since.
I did join a keeper league a few months ago that had 100 player rosters, a deep draft, etc. But it was run pretty poorly and had lots of constant turnover. I thought I'd have time for it, but then I started to get busy here and in the MLBSA with trade talks, free agency, and just general league shit, and realized that I don't really have time for a third league. Maybe one that was very similar in nature to NSBL or MLBSA so I didn't have a huge learning curve and I could just draw from the knowledge I already have, instead of learning all new rules, arbitration information, etc. But not a completely new style and concept.
I am intrigued by the whole Euro-Soccer move up and down idea, but I just don't have the time for a third league.

I don't have the time right now to do a live auction. It would be fun but jsut takes up too much time.
BTW that Reddit league is not a keeper league. You draft new every year so no need to keep track of anything. Each person moves up or down to new league levels based on past performance.

The auction draft I did was on a message board, like this one.
It was a while ago, so I don't remember the way it actually worked, but I think that each day, everyone got to put one name on the board. Anyone could bid on any of those players until midnight. Whoever had the high bid at midnight won the bid, and the next day would then begin.
I could be wrong on the rules, but it was something like that.

This year, I'm only doing 1 traditional fantasy league. It's a 10 team league. It's with family and friends, it's free, and my uncle hand-carves a wood trophy for the winner. I'm gonna win one of these years.
Had the draft last night and ended up with this:
C: Gary Sanchez 1B: Albert Pujols 2B: Jose Altuve SS: Corey Seager 3B: Evan Longoria IF: Mike Napoli LF: Yoenis Cespedes CF: Joc Pederson RF: Giancarlo Stanton OF: Andrew Benintendi Utility: Javier Baez Bench: Dansby Swanson
P: Chris Sale P: Jose Quintana P: Jameson Taillon P: Dylan Bundy P: Michael Fulmer P: Julio Urias P: Daniel Norris
I always focus on hitting over pitching in this league. If I'm still paying attention to it at the All-Star break, I start to stream pitchers and rack up some points that way. With hitters, I focused on the big hitters early (Altuve, Seager, Stanton), got some young kids in the middle rounds - since most of the people in my league don't follow baseball beyond their favorite team - (Benintendi, Sanchez, Pederson) and rounded out my lineup with veterans at the end that I instantly got mocked for because they're "washed up" (Pujols, Longoria, Napoli). I'm happy with them at the end of the draft. Baez is my wild-card pick. I never usually take anyone on my bench, especially one that only qualifies at one position, but when Swanson is sitting there in the second to last round, I have to take him.
With pitching, I took Sale early, then held off on the rest. Took some guys with upside (Urias, Taillon, Fulmer, Norris) who I won't be upset to drop if I need the spot to stream a pitcher. I only took Bundy because we need someone to fill that RP slot. The way the scoring is set up, putting a starter there, even a marginal one like Bundy, nets you more points than a traditional reliever. So I looked for the most interesting starter that qualified as a RP. We'll see how long that experiment lasts.
What do you all think? Am I as bad at traditional fantasy as I am at sim?

I'm gonna win one of these years. If the MLBSA is any indication, your best chance of winning is to let someone else pick your team, run it for five months, and then you come in for the last month and the playoffs. That's how you win.

Hey! I got that team in May. Yeah, I didn't do much, but I didn't do much for longer than a month!
And I rocked those playoffs. I changed nearly everything each game for most players based on the pitcher. I spent way too much time scouting and messing with the slider bars in those playoffs, ha!

I think your team is balanced assuming a typical 5 x 5 league. There are a couple guys I would not want in Fantasy this year but if the Baseball upside translates to Fantasy value then you will be well rewarded.

It's actually a 14x14 H2H league. Each stat is awarded a point value versus a traditional roto league, where you get a point for winning a category. The only stat I punt is saves, which isn't a big deal because you only get 2 points per save, versus 1 point for every inning pitched. Hence why I go with a starter in the RP slot. A starter goes three innings, it's already as valuable as a 1-inning save.
Other teams are drafting closers early and often, when I'm still stocking up on hitters, where the big points are.
