Another dumb idea: League-wide stats Yeah, I'm a nerd, but I think it would be fun to have league-wide stats and records. I began this with my team a couple years ago, and think it would be fun to see who the all-time HR leader is, or what the single season record holders are. I've attached mine here just as an example. Obviously, compiling all of this wouldn't be a one-person job. It would take A LOT of people. Anyone up to the task of starting this? I'm not sure how far back we could go... I've actually been trying to work on something similar. Since you're in the MLBSA as well, I'm sure you've seen the Encyclopedia pages they have there. I wanted to do similar, but I only have back to 2006 with the zip files, and the 2009 one doesn't work. Sean didn't keep good records when he was Commish. Idiot. But I've had trouble getting the Encyclopedia to work. I loaded up all 10 seasons that I have (after having to transfer the older ones to v11), but I still haven't been able to get them all to work together to compare year-to-year stats. I plan to keep trying, but the Help directory on the program is near worthless and the yoku help boards don't talk about Encyclopedia much at all. I just have more pressing things to work on when it comes to the league, but this and the DMB How To... page are still on the stove, just moved to a back burner.

I haven't really played with the Encyclopedia (going to after typing this), but do they have all time stats? Like, can you look up the MLBSA all-time HR leader? Or SB leader? Or single-season leaders? That's what I want. Could make it fun if you're having a crappy season but have someone getting close to an all-time record.
Edit: Yes it does have that! Perfect!

If you can figure out Encyclopedia, in order to download previous zip files just use the link in my profile for the current one, but add the year afterwards. So like www.TheNSBL.com/NSBL2006.zip and such. It goes back as far as 2006, and like I said, 2009 doesn't load correctly.

You also need the correct version of Encyclopedia in order to export the data into a format which can be imported into v11 of Encyclopedia. Like I said, I haven't been able to figure it all out. I asked Mark over at MLBSA but he's not exactly sure how he did it all.

I don't even see where this encyclopedia function is. It's a separate program that usually comes with DMB when it is purchased. It didn't come with my version of DMB v11 though cause it came pre-loaded with the 2015 projections. I had Mark (from our other league, not you. Sorry if you were confused) send me the program so I could try to use it. But you can do stuff like this with it if you can figure out how to make it work correctly. I can't. (I'm not sure if non-members will be able to see the linked page or not) mlbsa.net/mlbsa_encyclopedia/

I didn't think you meant me. I was just curious to try to run mine from 2011-16, but since I don't have it, no worries.

FWIW, I'm working on a scraper that will keep this sort of stuff for years going forward. It's going to be buggy as hell since I don't really know how to handle players who change teams during the season and stuff, but at least for the time being, it looks okay. I've got the basic scraper up and working, which grabs the players ratings from the 'Team roster' pages (e.g. thensbl.com/tm1_tmroster.htm). Next I'm working on getting the data from the batting/pitching/pitching splits/fielding pages. Here are a couple screenshots of the ratings tables so far:

I've had good luck with the Encyclopedia, have stats in one of my leagues back to 2001. It will do All Time Leaders, Leaders over a set time period, Individual Team Leaders, Highest Single Season Total for whatever. I just loaded in my 2016 in this league, and Evan Longoria finally surpassed Jose Guillen as my all time HR leader. I don't use it a ton, but every now and then I'll get lost in it and reminisce on my team's glory days.

Well I just scraped all the data on the each of our team pages. Eventually I'll do something more interesting, but for now, I just wanted to have all of that information since I don't know what Encyclopedia is, how to use is (and it's a pain for me to go boot into the DMB program).
One thing this db will be good for is for useless trivia. So, here is the first of the series USELESS 2016 TRIVIA:
Which player played the most positions during the season, and how many positions did they play?

There may not be a working file for the 2009 season, but we do have the batting and pitching registers. I'd be willing to go through and help enter those by hand, if that's possible. If it's just one season, it wouldn't take too long at all.

It was easy to figure out if you believe that there are two ways this was likely to happen. It would either have to be a team that highly values player versatility or a team that had little attention paid to them throughout the season, and would have to play players all over to account for injuries and short benches. Then I just checked out Team Fielding pages. The Braves were the third team I checked, after Milwaukee and Tampa.
