Our version of DMB baseball (NSBL) was founded on 2/28/03. All members act in a general managerial capacity and operate their team according to their own vision and style, using their own baseball knowledge and, of course, within the rules of the league. All teams inherited the original team roster and full minor league roster at the start date of the league, and used these players to build their team roster.
The purpose of the league is to offer entertainment while engaging in friendly competition. All GMs in good standing with league are allowed to run their team in any manner they see fit subject to the rules of the league.
This league shall always be maintained by the rules and bylaws set forth in this document. All GMs must agree to adhere to these rules before entering the league.
All members of the league will enter the league in good standing and shall be expected to maintain that good standing. The number of GMs shall be equal to the number of teams in “real” MLB action (currently 30). Shared GM duties must be approved by the committee. If an assistant GM is approved by the league, all responsibilities still fall on the primary GM, including the actions of their assistants.
Good standing shall be defined as complete adherence to the rules and general good sportsmanship. The committee will hear any and all grievances.
This league is a free league. We aim to keep it that way. Your rules committee has taken responsibility for all moneys paid out to purchase the yearly updates of the program used for simulation. If at some point money is needed, we will ask GMs to make a donation, but we have no intention of ever requiring money from any participants.
In the event that a GM chooses to leave the league, we will draw from the list of applicants to fill that position. If there is no list, we will actively seek a replacement and the team will be run by a member of the committee. A team being controlled by the committee can not make trades without committee approval, but will remain active in free agency with open bids being posted by a committee member. Unowned teams will draft from a master list compiled by one of the committee members, giving them the best available talent regardless of needs in order to make the team as attractive as possible to prospective owners.
In the event that MLB contracts teams, we will contract also; those GMs who managed the contracted teams will have “first dibs” at any vacancies.
All provision and bylaws shall be enforced by the rules committee. Certain scenarios may require the input of the entire league, and a vote of GMs will take place. The committee shall consist of no less than 5 members, each maintaining a specific area of league operations. Other members of the league may be asked to assist in a particular task, but that does not necessarily mean they are on the rules committee. Any expansion of the committee will happen in even numbered increments and will be subject to election by league voting.
All teams shall retain and maintain their relation to their MLB counterparts this year and all future years. This encompasses all situations including a team changing cities.
Games will be played according the designated schedule set forth by MLB. No games will be rescheduled due to weather or any other external reasons.
In the event that DMB doesn't provide a projection disk, NSBL will use ZiPS projections. NSBL will continue to search for projections systems that use the DMB software in the event that ZiPS might become unavailable.
Any situations not covered in the rules will be handled by the committee on an as-need basis.
