No, he is saying Free Agency is over now. What in the world is he going to use $8.4m for now? It's not like there is anyone out there worthwhile to spend on. This type of stuff is like clockwork, every winter Toronto, Tampa, and Texas hit up either Philly or NYY (or both) in lopsided deals. To be fair to Connor, though, it hasn't happened this winter (yet) with him. So your saying it is fair value, just not the right time of year for it, that is what makes it lopsided?? Quit being obtuse. You knowingly took advantage of Philly (yet again), knowing full well that having extra cash at this point in time in a lot less valuable than any picks. This was exactly why I responded to your request to me with $20m per year for the next four years. Having extra money after your roster is built isn't close to the value of any draft pick, and you know it. Its why you sent that email to half the league, and not suprisingly, got Philly to bite. If having extra cash was valuable, you would keep it all. You prey on Philly and NYY non stop, its quite the pattern of abuse that many in the league not only recognize, but come to expect. It's just pathetic that you continue to do so and feel good about yourself enough to try to defend the garbage that you pull.

The committee needs to step in and veto this trade, and no offense to John, but maybe replace him for the good of the league. Tracy has repeatedly shown no morals when it comes to taking advantage of less astute GMs. It has created an uneven playing field in both of the eastern divisions that rivals that of the salary cap issue. When Boston and I are the only two in the division who either don't regularly take advantage of John and Shawn, or get taken advantage of, it gives Tracy, and Connor whose done it several times, an advantage.
There is no reason to trade for $8 million right now. There is not $8 million worth of contracts out there. That Philly team is in such bad shape, it can't compete for at least 3-4 years most likely and is going to need committee intervention to get that team off the ground. Extra draft picks or something. How does a team that has a Top 5 pick every season end up completely bereft of quality prospects? Not a single guy in the Top 100, maybe not even Top 250. John has only claimed one guy to be untouchable in the past half dozen years and that was Mark Trumbo. Every other prospect has been traded for garbage or expiring greatness.
It's time to think about the good of the league. We got rid of a couple GMs already, maybe it's time to do it again. John, this is nothing personal, I am not attacking you, just your ability to run a sim team. You've always been a great guy and I wish you well in whatever leagues you join, but maybe it's time to move on. You're too nice, and some people take advantage of that.
And the committee needs to stop the "no veto unless collusion" rule and start vetoing trades that hurt the integrity and the competitive balance of the league. Let's see how Tracy does when he isn't constantly taking advantage of other GMs to get extra picks and good players for the trash he trades. Tracy... there is a reason half the league won't even talk trades with you.

Okay everyone, let's keep the personal attacks off the message board. You can discuss a trade here, but this isn't the place for comments about the actual owner. If you'd like to contest a trade, please do so via email. We have already received one for this trade and the committee will be looking at it.
Thank you.

Trade is currently under review PHI receives: $8.400 M in 2016 TOR receives: 4.27 in 2016 4.30 in 2016 For record keeping and league notification, this trade has been veto'd by the committee.

To COL - $1.8MM in 2016 To OAK - $2.0MM in 2017 Considering that 50% of unspent money transfers over to the following season, Oakland is actually losing money in this deal. Well played, Colorado! JIm

Oakland loses $1.8MM this year from the trade, and then $1MM next year from the trade.
$2.8MM > $2MM

In order to get the money next year it would have to go unused this year so it is either worth 1.8 to him this year or 0.9 to him next year, but not both.

I wouldn't say that, Hayes. Oakland's payroll is dropping $1.8MM this year because he's giving out the money, and then because of that, his payroll next year will be $0.9MM less than if he had kept the cash.
Now, if you want to make the argument that Oakland isn't using any more of his money this year, so he could gain an extra $1MM of cap space next year by loaning it out, I guess I could see that argument. But overall, I think this puts the A's at a net loss.

Him trading $1.8M this year is no different than using it on a player. It is his to use or not. The only gain for next year is the percentage of the surplus and since he is acquiring more than that percentage he is making a net profit for 2017.

One question, did it change to 50% for this year? I know it was higher (I think 75%) last year.

The fact that we are arguing at length about this shows how absolutely lame Dan Szymbiorski is for not having his shizzle together. We should be simming games now.

This is actually just a grain of sand in the much larger beach that is the NSBL anti-pirate conspiracy.....the 2 mil actually gets added onto Goldschits CE next year with a whopping 120% interest rate... Good thing Skip McMountJIm seems to have a huge boner for the Pirates and their seemingly perma-fried GM.....

Actually, Skip McMountme seemed more critical of me than almost anyone. He seemed to rate your White Sox club quite high, despite the fact that you lost almost 100 games last year. Skip is your friend and ally, Matt.

IMO, this first trade salvo by the Brew Crew was as solid a deal as one could hope to make for the future of the team. Hurts for a few months, but brings years of promise back.

Two things:
1. Jacob Turner is a pitcher.
2. Jacob Turner is sadly still on my roster.
And a bonus third:
3. I know you mean Justin Turner, but I want to be a jerk about it.

Son of a bitch. You bastard, Colby. #verlander'd JIm Verlander was strictly acquired for the purpose of bringing Kate Upton to the clubhouse on a regular basis. Any pitching he provides is just icing on the cake.

As some here know from my years of message board posting gone by, I don't think Kate Upton has any class, so this makes it doubly-sting for me.
