Next up in the awards ceremonies is the Rookie of the Year award, given to the first year player seen as best overall in both leagues. I received 14 votes for each league, with the AL being won in a landslide while the NL saw a close race emerge with a clear-cut top 3.
In the American League, SP Trevor Bauer[/b] of the Cleveland Indians ran away with the award, accumulating more the twice the total points that second place Ricky Romero of the Oakland Athletics received. Wilson Ramos of the Baltimore Orioles finished a distant 3rd, with Kansas City Royals 2B Dustin Ackley also receiving a lone 1st place vote.
Bauer put up great numbers for the AL Central runner-ups, going 14-7, with a 3.73 ERA in 33 starts, including a CG. His 207.7 IP were a team-high by 18 IP, and his 208 K were good enough for 5th in the American League behind Toronto's front 3 of Zack Grienke, Cliff Lee, and Clayton Kershaw and Baltimore's ace C.C. Sabathia.
In the National League, what turned out to be a close race all throughout the voting ending up falling to 1B Paul Goldschmidt[/b] of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who managed to hold off Brett Lawrie of the Milwaukee Brewers, with Cory Luebke of the Washington Nationals finishing in a close 3rd and Rubby de la Rosa of the Atlanta Braves also garnering first place votes.
Goldschmidt put up huge numbers in the middle of the Pittsburgh lineup, hitting .280/344/.558 (2nd), good for an OPS of 0.902 (5th), and 41 2B, 7 3B, 33 HR (T-3rd), 94 R, and 113 RBI (3rd).
