Hi friends,
I'm sure a lot of these ideas are already being discussed among the Committee, but I wanted to throw them out for the feels.
I think we need to prepare for the possibility that Diamond Mind doesn't release a 2022 disk, and may be likely to go out of business. It's to the point where their profit margin for 2022 is dropping more and more, decreasing their onus to publish a 2022 disk. So if they don't, here were some options I was kicking around...
1. Sim the 2022 season with the 2021 disk
We already have this disk. It wouldn't be entirely fair: some promising rookies would have to be kept on the reserve for another season, and GMs would have to look back into old projections after spending the offseason pouring over 2022 ZiPS. But it would at least allow us to have a season, even if the eventual World Series winner has an asterisk beside his name.
2. Don't sim the season, but still hold the Summer Draft, and allow trades throughout the month of July
Even if we don't sim, GMs can see how players/prospects are performing this year, and still make moves in anticipation of moving to OOTP in 2023. This would allow the league to at least still have a pulse.
3. Keep all XXX-6th year contracts XXX-6th going into 2023; allow GMs to decide if V contracts lose a year of service
If we can't legit sim these guys with a 2022 disk, it doesn't seem fair for guys to lose a year of eligibility for anyone. However, I do think it would be cool to give GMs the option as to whether their V players lose a year or not. Many GMs have bad contracts they're looking to finish up, and if somebody signed a mid-30's player to a V contract, they may be nervous extending it one year closer to 40.
4. Make a coordinated effort to send Hoppy boner-in-sweatpants pics over e-mail
This is mutually exclusive from the other three, and I am not opposed to this regardless. Our chances of success would increase if we added enticing e-mail titles like, "MEGADEAL OFFER FOR YOU!!1!1!" I would prefer the pictures being large enough that you can actually make out the veins through the sweatpants. Hoppy deserves that.
What do you guys think of the other ideas? Just trying to plan for a contingency here. Xoxo.
