Preface - You may have strong feelings about the topic I am posting about today. I do understand, but please keep comments confined to how it impacts the league or you as a GM. Also, this is not about loopholes or judgement or anything else that it can be about. Purely a statement regarding league policy.
So, have you seen what's going on with the Trevor Bauer saga? Firstly, I went into my acquisition of Bauer with my eyes wide-f'n-open. I do not require or want any type of sympathy if I end up with $34MM of dead money. I got a sweet deal because Trevor Bauer is shady af.
The league policy on contract forgiveness is very clear and very simple. If a player under contract passes away, the remainder of guaranteed money is forgiven and the contract is canceled. That's it.
There are no caveats or special circumstances currently that would trigger any other contracts to be forgiven.
The reason I bring it up is because Bauer's suspension effectively cancels his contract with the Dodgers. The Dodgers effectively will receive $60+MM dollars of forgiveness despite the hubris that led them to paying Bauer that much money annually. In real life, players have conduct clauses and MLB punishments and all that other BS. We have one rule regarding contracts, Buyer Beware.
As always, the committee will hear grievances on a case-by-case basis. Just wanted to post a reminder of our current policy so that there are no surprises in the future.
Thanks for the time. Enjoy the annual "disk waiting period."
