There actually was a guy I wanted in tier 3, but after getting Renfroe, I'm tapped out financially. Renfroe is better than the guy I wanted, anyway, so I'm ok with that. Unless something pops up, here's your 2022 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim!
SP1: Julio Urias - 131 ERA+ SP2: Hyun-Jin Ryu - 122 ERA+ SP3: Ryan Weiss - 110 ERA+ SP4: Peyton Battenfield - 100 ERA+ SP5: Griffin Canning - 98 ERA+
CL: Codi Heuer - 118 ERA+ SU: Ryan Thompson - 115 ERA+ SU: Phoenix Sanders - 112 ERA+ SU: Miguel Castro - 107 ERA+ SU: Adam Kolarek - 105 ERA+ LR: JB Wendelken - 96 ERA+ LR: Shea Spitzbarth - 90 ERA+
C: Carlos Perez - 74 OPS+ (and +10 defense!) 1B: Yoshi Tsutsugo - 94 OPS+ 2B: Luis Urias - 106 OPS+ SS: Corey Seager - 130 OPS+ 3B: Rafael Devers - 131 OPS+ LF: Hunter Renfroe - 100 OPS+ CF: Kyle Tucker - 135 OPS+ RF: DJ Stewart - 102 OPS+ DH: Carlos Santana - 90 OPS+
C: Yermin Mercedes - 90 OPS+ 1B/3B: Matt Davidson - 95 OPS+ 2B/SS: Tucupita Marcano - 70 OPS+ OF: David Dahl - 80 OPS+ 1B/OF: Sam Travis - 84 OPS+
I got the stars. If Urias, Devers, Seager, and Tucker perform like stars, I might be able to sniff the playoffs. If even one of those guys struggle in the sim, I have no chance. My supporting cast just isn't strong enough. I like my rotation ok for 2022, but it's going to be a mess in 2023. That's a problem for future LA John to worry about. My bullpen is meh. I hated trading Hader, but that was a lot of money to be paying for a guy who will play ~60-70 innings this season. By moving him, it allowed me to lock up Devers and Urias AND field a somewhat competitive team. But my bullpen is meh. That's kinda become my M.O. in bullpen construction: find a bunch of cheap AAAA guys in free agency who project to ~110-120 ERA+ and hope for the best. They rarely project well in year 2, but again... a problem for future LA John. The only positions I would really like to upgrade are 1B and DH. I'm hoping between Tsutsugo, Santana, Davidson, and Travis, two of those guys will get sim magic. Travis always outsims his projection for me in small sample sizes... can that carry to larger sample sizes? I may be forced to find out!

I love my starting pitching and if I can make it to a playoff series, I think I'll have the advantage in Games 2-4. My bullpen is a mess and I'll likely try to add a RP or 2 during the season, but not too concerned at the moment. My hitting is odd at this point, I've got a lot of position flexibility which will allow me to platoon a lot but right now I'm really curious what the exact ratings for these players will be. The top half of my lineup should be strong, the back half will either be average or below-average depending on how the platooning works out.
I had 80 wins last year but I overachieved a bit. This year I've added Aaron Nola and Christian Yelich along with a Kevin Gausman bump. 87 Wins was good enough for a WC last year and I think this team can get there....maybe.
Note - still looking to sell a 3rd round pick in the 2022 Summer Draft.

Not sure how the final lineup will look at this point. I have a lot of flexibility with the lineup and will likely run a platoon heavy lineup and ride the hot bat. 1b. Miguel Sano | 123 | 2b. Isaac Paredes | 106 | 3b. Jose Ramirez | 141 | ss. Willy Adames | 105 | dh. Juan Yepez | 105 | lf. Brandon Nimmo | 123 | cf. Max Kepler | 113 | rf. Michael Conforto | 116 | c. Max Stassi | 89 | |
|
c. Alex Avila | 77 | ut. Adam Frazier | 99 | ss. Andres Gimenez | 93 | of. Victor Robles | 85 |
The rotation is strong. I need two more arms to fill out the pen which is the weak part of this team. sp. Logan Webb
| 139 | sp. Justin Verlander | 128 | sp. Lance McCullers Jr | 121 | sp. Jose Berrios | 117 | sp. Chris Rodriguez | 111 |
rhp. Brusdar Graterol | 130 | rhp. Diego Castillo | 129 | rhp. Tyler Rogers | 113 | lhp. Brett Martin | 114 | lhp. Amir Garrett | 111 | rhp. Alex Colome | 110 | rhp. Casey Sadler | 109 | rhp Norwith Gudino | 101 |
Maybe this is the year I get past game 7 of the ALCS...but probably not.

ROTATION Jonathan Loasiga (134 ERA+) Chad Green (122) German Marquez (119) Joe Musgrove (118) Corey Knebel (118)
BULLPEN Jordan Romano (134) Brooks Raley (122) Scott Oberg (122) Craig Stammen (120) Jimmy Cordero (116) Colby White (115) Adrian Morejon (112) Colin Poche (108)
The pitching staff should be a strength. Biggest question mark is how many innings I get from the 3 true relievers that will be used in the rotation. But the pen is deep, so I should be able to spread the innings around to keep everyone fresh.
LINEUP C - Francisco Mejia (99 OPS+ / 2.5 WAR) 1B - Brandon Belt (119 / 3.2) 2B - Jose Altuve (116 / 3.4) 3B - Alex Bregman (135 / 5.5) SS - Trevor Story (110 / 3.8) LF - Dylan Carlson (116 / 3.0 CF - Brett Phillips (78 / 2.3) RF - Aaron Hicks (102 / 2.0) DH - Wilmer Flores (109 / 2.6)
BENCH/DEPTH Roberto Perez, C Luis Guillorme, IF Philip Evans, IF Adam Duvall, OF Luke Raley, OF Mitch Moreland, 1B
A last minute deal for Belt brought the lineup together nicely. A handful of these players look to be declining in real life, so 2023 might not look so great. But this team should score plenty of runs.
PREDICTION 97-65 Arizona takes a 3rd straight NL West title, beating out the always tough Colorado squad.

How many innings would they actually go in the sim? 2? 3? Not quite. Based on ZiPS, and Dan’s past practice, all of them should get SP ratings, most likely PR durability. That means they’re only effective for 4-6 IP, at the most. Here's what Chad Green pitched in 2020-2021: 186 IP in 36 GS 181 IP in 35 GS Averages just over 5 IP, but very effective innings. If he's asked to go longer, it's not good. I'd expect similar durability from Battenfield and Weiss. I've never tried this with 3 guys though, so I'm a little worried about wearing out a bullpen.

Although it has the feel of the "new look" Texas Rangers to me, it's much business as usual. Three pretty big names left this year, Yelich, LeMahieu and Blake Treinen. Along with some other bigger contracts coming off the books after this year, I actually contemplated the first teardown in my 12 year history here. Two big offseason moves to bring in Jon Gray and Chris Taylor were made and then 5 free agents for under $18M total.
* denotes FA addition
1B - Pete Alonso 138 2B - Schoop - 101 SS - Swanson - 95 3B - Escobar - 108 C - Realmuto - 107 LF - Winker - 128 CF - * Margot - 93 - Taylor - 105 RF - Verdugo - 108 DH - L - Beaty R- Andujar
Chris Taylor will essentially play 6 different positions this year
Bench Margot / Taylor Beaty Brosseau Andujar * Freitas
STARTERS
SP1 - Bieber - 141 SP2 - Ray - 121 SP3 - Gray - 108 SP4 - Dunning - 105 SP5 - Luccchesi - 105 SP6 - Paddack - 103 SP7 - * Thompson - 100
BULLPEN
Rogers - 166 Bednar - 121 Hill - 118 * Wilson - 116 * Coonrod - 114 Brebbia - 113 Fry - 111 * Bender - 108
Strong and deeper rotation, deeper pen and above average but not stellar offense that is deeper RH than LH after losing Yelich. Team should put up a good battle for their 4th straight division title and hope for an opportunity to win a freaking playoff series. 11 seasons, 997 wins, .559 winning percentage, 5 division titles, 3 wild card games, only 1 losing season and not one trip to the league championship is getting old like me.

He hasn't started a game since 2019.

Since Trout exited a few years back I was forced into a rebuild. I finally feel like this team is ready to contend for the division if it goes right. The 2022 Mariners are offense heavy, but deep all across the board in case of injuries or bad sims.
The offense is the strength of the club and has ability to get production from the 1st spot to the 9th. The bench is deep as well in case there needs to be a change. The pitching is a average across the board with no stars but also no bums. They should be able to keep offense in games to make the big splash.
This team has ability to disrupt the division and do enough damage to make the playoffs. They "should" be good enough to make the 2nd season.
2022 Seattle Mariners
Line-up Jake Cronenworth (1b)/ 118 OPS+ George Springer (CF)/ 132 OPS+ Manny Machado (3b)/ 125 ERA+ Teoscar Hernandez (RF)/ 121 OPS+ Josh Bell (DH)/ 127 OPS+ Tim Anderson (SS)/ 113 OPS+ Mitch Garver (CT)/ 120 OPS+ (better ZiPS now in TEX) Randal Grichuk (LF)/ 99 OPS+ (better ZiPS now in COL) Brendan Rogers (2B) / 99 OPS+
Bench Charlie Blackmon Thairo Estrada Bryan de la Cruz Dominic Nunez
On the Farm- Pavin Smith, Sam Hillard, Gabriel Moreno, Robinson Cano
Rotation Freddy Peralta (123 ERA+) Patrick Sandoval (108 ERA+) David Price (108 ERA+) Huascar Ynoa (111 ERA+) Seth Lugo (108 ERA+)/ Jimmy Nelson (109 ERA+)
Bullpen Ken Giles (119 ERA+) Kendall Graveman – Can’t find ERA+ Jose LeClerc (112 ERA+) Keone Kela (108 ERA+) Matt Wisler (111 ERA+) Drew Pomeranz (106 ERA+) Daniel Hudson (109 ERA+) Seth Lugo (108 ERA+)/ Jimmy Nelson (109 ERA+)
On the Farm- Mike Minor, Jose Suarez, Mitch White

If my calculations are correct, I think it will have roughly ~$16 mil in surplus entering the season, which could allow them to take on vets if they make a playoff push, or buy a much needed pick or two, as the reserve roster would be liberally described as thin (I don't follow prospects as relentlessly as I used to, but I have only heard of ~5 XXX guys on this roster, and I know a couple of them are pretty close to losing any hope of usability). In hindsight, it would have been nice to be able to participate in Tier 1, as adding Nola or Thor to the top of the rotation would give the team some high upside pathways towards being really solid, as a playoff rotation of Flaherty, Snell, Nola/Thor, Wade Miley would at least be competitive in most series. Otherwise I don't have a lot of complaints for how free agency went for this team. It has a ton of outfielders, so the CF and non-Soto corner spots will be based on platoons and riding the hot hand, but I don't think any team has ever complained about having too many usable players. Naive gut prediction: 88 wins and a wild card spot....but I also haven't looked at any of the other NL East rosters since none of you posted in this thread yet

GM Not Bot is proud to present the 2022 Tampa Bay Rays!
Pitchers: Pete Fairbanks - RP - 124 ERA+ Justin Bruihl (L) - SP/RP - 118 ERA+ Caleb Ferguson (L) - SP/RP - 117 ERA+ Alex Wood (L) - SP - 116 ERA+ Daniel Bard - RP - 115 ERA+ Andrew Chafin (L) - RP - 113 ERA+ David Phelps - RP - 111 ERA+ Luis H. Garcia - SP - 111 ERA+ Joe Smith - RP - 109 ERA+ Oliver Drake - RP - 109 ERA+ Daniel Robert - RP - 108 ERA+ Yu Darvish - SP - 107 ERA+ Dustin May - SP/RP - 107 ERA+ Bryan Abreu - SP/RP - 100 ERA+
Catchers: Austin Nola - 98 OPS+ (-2 D) Jason Castro (L) - 97 OPS+ (-2 D) Tomas Telis (S) - 86 OPS+ (+4 D @ 1B)
Infielders: Trea Turner - 129 OPS+ (-1 D @ SS) Anthony Rizzo (L) - 123 OPS+ (+2 D @ 1B) Luis Arraez (L) - 108 OPS+ (+0 D @ 3B) Gleyber Torres - 104 OPS+ (-5 D @ SS) Darin Ruf - 103 OPS+ (-2 D @ 1B) Jean Segura - 97 OPS+ (+1 D @ 2B) Donovan Solano - 93 OPS+ (-2 D @ 2B) Andrew Velazquez - 84 OPS+ (-1 D @ SS)
Outfielders: Ronald Acuna Jr. - 143 OPS+ (+4 D @ RF) Mookie Betts - 138 OPS+ (+9 D @ RF) Harrison Bader - 104 OPS+ (+11 D @ CF) Brad Miller (L) - 103 OPS+ (+2 D @ 1B)
You know the drill. I want to win the championship. This team isn't as strong as some of my past rosters, but it's no slouch either. The top end of the bullpen and rotation is a weak spot, but I'm hoping that having a relatively flat distribution of good arms will make it so Coach Bot can't infuriate me too much. Hitting wise, any time you can grab Jason Castro and Darin Ruf as your big free agent additions, you know you've had a banger of an off-season. Castro will platoon behind the dish with Nola, though Nola will still see some of the playing time vs. righties, and Ruf will platoon with Brad Miller at DH and hopefully combined they make for a viable option. Adding Jean Segura in a take-on-cash deal was fun as well. He's not the player he used to be, but he should hopefully be a solid enough player with eligibility at the non-1B spots.
Naive gut prediction: 95 wins and the division title (no idea what BAL/BOS/NYY/TOR look like though outside of a cursory glance at their rosters)

So this is not set in stone, I have to see what positions some guys have on the sim. Tork played a lot of 3B in the minors last season, so I am banking on him having that position for at least 2022. Walsh also played in LF in 2021, so I am hoping he has a rating there as well. Gallo played CF in 18 and 19 and for one inning in 2020, so I am hoping he still has a rating there. Basically it comes down to whether I have to have Carter Kieboom up as my 3B or Zimmer/Marsh as my CF. Everything else will be the same. I know Jim has an uber rotation, but I think this line-up can do some damage to it. I was hoping for a slightly stronger #2 option for my rotation, I thought Houck would get a better projection than he got, considering how he's pitched in the majors. ZiPS disagreed. But I still ended up with a quality #1 and four other guys who are above average starters. I just missed out on numerous relievers I wanted as well, but again, I have a bunch of above average guys there. Focused on getting RPs who kept the ball in the yard. That's not always how it works though. As I said, I don't think I can win the division, but I think I can compete for a Wild Card with this team. And still with some solid prospects coming up and six 1st round picks this year, my arrow is pointing up.
