Unless something comes along that blows my mind, the 2021 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's roster is complete.
Overall outlook: I think that it's safe to say that my 10 year rebuild is over. I'm finally in position where I should be a winning team year in and year out. Not saying that I will compete for the playoffs every season, but all you can really do is build a team that consistently finished over .500, and then hope you catch a few breaks every now and then. This year's team should easily finish over .500 and hopefully be in the playoff chase, if a few breaks go my way.
The offense will put up some runs. Seager, Devers, Tucker, and Goldschmidt will see to that. Defensively, I still have some work to do, but moving Devers to the DH spot should help. For as good as he was offensively in the sim last year (and he was REALLY good), he was almost as bad defensively.
My rotation should be above average. Ryu and Urias give me a solid 1-2 punch. After that, I'm hoping that Canning and Peacock outpitch their league-average projections. Perez's job will be to just eat up some innings, though he has always simmed way above his projection ever since I've gotten him.
The bullpen is headlined by my bulldog, Hader. Other than him, it's a bunch of league-average to slightly above average middle relievers, but I'm hoping that there's enough depth there to find a few guys who out-perform their projections. It'll get the job done.
Rotation 1. Hyun-Jin Ryu (126) 2. Julio Urias (119) 3. Griffin Canning (104) 4. Brad Peacock (103) 5. Martin Perez (91)
Bullpen CL - Josh Hader (164) SU - Addison Russ (118) SU - Codi Heuer (111) MR - Shea Spitzbarth (110) MR - Andrew Chafin - (109) LR - Buck Farmer - (108) Mop - Silvino Bracho (101)
Lineup C - Yermin Mercedes (92) 1B - Paul Goldschmidt (117) 2B - Jean Segura (94) 3B - Luis Urias (90) SS - Corey Seager (130) LF - Yoshi Tsutsugo (108) CF - David Dahl (102) RF - Kyle Tucker (124) DH - Rafael Devers (123)

I have a few weak links, but the TigerMob is ready. AJ Puk may eventually take over for Wieck or Bubic. The bench is deep. The lineup is about as strong as a guy with no money could put together. I have to make these next 2 years count while starting to rebuild the farm system. I like my chances better this year than last year. Are you rolling with a 4 man rotation, and having a bullpen day when a 5th starter is needed? That's a bold strategy, Cotton. I'm interested to see how the sim would handle that.

1. Definitely the offseason where I felt the cap crunch most. Signed 0 free agents, and had to trade away players with quality ZiPS, including... SS Javier Baez (3.2 WAR) SS Jean Segura (1.4 WAR) RP Keone Kela (0.6 WAR) RP Ken Giles (0.8 WAR) RP Andrew Chafin (0.3 WAR) 1B Jesus Aguilar (1.2 WAR) This will hurt my bullpen and MINF, but at least in the MINF, I can fill the holes. It also gave me a nice handful of decent prospects, as well as guys that step up right away. 2. I still have a ton of positional flexibility in both INF and OF. All 4 bench players could be starters. Took a chance and called up Nick Allen and his crazy +12 def after trading away Baez. 3. Ironically, the best but weakest part of the 2021 Pirates is the rotation. I've never had a #1/#2 ZiPS combo like Giolito and Kershaw got this year; it's likely the best 1-2 in the league. But after that, it gets a little sketch. This is where I wish I had a few MM in FA. Very few teams can consistently contend while still rebuilding through the back of the deck. But so far, I'm pulling it off. JIm

After the usual dance around the contracts, Miami has a team that should contend in one form or another. This team doesn't seem as ready as the last two, so maybe that means we will break the wild card jinx! That is how logical we think here in Miami.
STARTERS (ERA+)
Sale (139) Rodriguez 110 Yarbrough 107 Lopez 104
SWINGMEN- should have starter rating but will also work out of the pen
Gonzalez 115 Suter 113 Kittredge 116
BULLPEN
Hand 138 Anderson 133 Montero 120 Pomeranz 116 Jackson 113 Alexander 111
The pen is not as polished as in previous years but the rotation should be real solid.
HITTERS (OPS+)- We built around Trout (after nearly trading him) so there should be some runs scored.
C- Jansen 101 C- Wolters 59- defensive replacement mostly 1b- Bell 107 2b- Fletcher 95 with a 5 defensive rating SS- Simmons - 89 with a 12 d 3B- Diaz 108 LF- Tauchman 105 with a 10 D rating CF- Trout 174 RF- Cooper 107 DH- Blackmon 106 with a -5 D- thank you DH!!
Bench- most of these guys are multiple-position players so lots of flexibility... based on NSBL ratings last year and MLB usage in 2020
Munoz- 96 and plays everywhere but C and 1B- not well but he qualifies Dean- 100 plays 1b and corner OF Straw- 75, plays all 3 OF, 6 rated D and adds speed off the bench and will get his share of starts
I have some pieces in the reserves that could be used but most likely not:
Castro 107 relief Wisler 100 starter and relief Junis 98 starter Civale 96 starter Kevin Smith 907 starter
DJ Stewart- 102 hitter- he has some pop but is all kinds of bad
As mentioned, it is a good team. What we lack in pitching and hopefully be helped by some real solid defense.

The 2021 TEXAS RANGERS ("Win one for Christian")
2020 was another solid year of winning (95 wins), a well earned division crown, getting to the dance and getting bounced again in the divisional series by KC. The team was third in batting (806 Runs), 7th in pitching (3.83 ERA)and 6th in fielding. Obviously a major loss in losing 2 SP(Hamels and Maeda) and Jose Ramirez to FA, but, with the looming drop in salary cap coming, I thought I could put 32M to dual use, maintaining a competitive team, grabbing some future assets locked up cheaply (Bednar, McKinstry and Hernandez) and keeping my debt load down. I spent just under $35M And my debt load is a very manageable 152M. Most importantly, I'll be losing Yelich after this season, while having about $60M in cash next year, a bumper FA crop.
So, my moves were made to boost the SP, the pen, replacing lost power from Ramirez and add some key, young, future assets.
I traded for Jesse Winker, who's ridiculously high OBP, along with Verdugo and Yelich should play well in front of the power of Alonso, Brosseau, Schoop, Andujar and on occasion Escobar. Rogers should bolster a strong back end of the pen with Treinen. The SP will feature Cy Young and Triple Crown winner Shane Bieber, Chris Paddack, Robbie Ray, Dane Dunning (trade) and Joey Lucchesi.
Christian Yelich is the last original player on my roster from when I took over 11 years ago. This season will be dedicated to him and his service to the organization.
STARTING ROTATION Bieber Paddack Ray Lucchesi Dunning
BULLPEN
David Bednar John Brebbia Brandon Morrow Jace Fry Tim Hill James Hoyt Blake Treinen Taylor Rogers
STARTING LINEUP
RF- Jesse Winker LF - Alex Verdugo CF- Christian Yelich 1B - Peter Alonso 3B - Mike Brosseau DH Miguel Andujar / Matt Beaty 2B - Jonathan Schoop SS- Dansby Swanson C - Austin Barnes / David Freitas
BENCH
SS/2B/3B - Eduardo Escobar If / OF - nearly every position - Niko Goodrum and/or Jon Berti
The real excitement I had this offseason was acquiring hopeful long term talent. First Dane Dunning in trade, then 3 youngish players with some real talent locked up for 5 years. David Bednar looks like a future closer, Hernandez and his wipe-out slider in the middle of Miami's rotation and a real exciting all-purpose Dodger prospect Zach McKinstry. If the cap continues to drop, I'm hoping I cashed in some value with these three.
Sorry there are no fancy charts or numbers. If you want to know how good , or not, this team is you're cordially invited to Texas for a series to find out.
2021 EXPECTATION
Hope to get out of the gate quickly, maybe make some mid-season pick-ups and try to repeat as AL West champs. From there, there's nothing but annual hope in Texas.

I have a class of prospect grads coming up. How good they are will determine the fate of this team. ROTATION: It's bad. I'll be experimenting all year with DMBs new expanded rotation. I have traditionally run 6-7 man rotations manually by making adjustments each week. I'm going to start with 5 starters and 1 bullpen day, with that bullpen day being on a skip setting. BULLPEN: It's actually alright. I have a couple of high leverage pieces. I'm going back to home run suppression as a bullpen strat because it has helped me beat my projected wins in the past. There were "better" options available over Perdomo and Peralta, but I think this is where I want to be for this season. LINEUP: It's like half a lineup. We'll see how all the pieces fit together. Most of my guys have some positional flexibility and I'll try as many combinations as necessary to find a good fit for all of them. Mike Ford might end up in the base lineup with Reyes or Stevenson moving to the bench. BENCH: It's kinda ok! I have 5 guys that deserve jobs! That's kinda awesome! RESERVES: I gots some guys I can call up if the waiver wire and free agent pool are depleted. Carry Over / Incumbent Free Agent Signing Off-Season Trade Reserves

Here's the Seattle team thats about 90% there. Overall a better team than last year with a core of Cronenworth, Anderson, Springer and Machado. Still piecing together the pitching staff with a lot of options for starters, and not real good relievers.
Looking to fight my way to .500 this year!

Still need to fill a spot and maybe send a guy or two down depending on any MLIs but this will be the 2021 Reds. I like the starting pitching and the offense should produce some runs. I have a little bit of flexibility with the DH now. The pen is a little thinner than I'd like but we should be able to compete with most teams out there.

This is a pretty complete team. My lineup isn't as long as it has been in the past but there is still a nice combo of on-base and power while JoRam and Dylan Moore will provide more speed than I have had in the past. The bullpen is weaker than last season with the loss of Hendricks, Betences, and Lugo, I focused mostly on RP help who keep the ball inside the park, the defense will need to play well to help my pen succeed. My rotation should be the strong point again with two hopeful ace like arms in Verlander and Castillo (who should get a SP rating) anchoring the top. It's world series or bust in Chicago. I got a fancy chart and numbers for ya'll. NAME | OPS+ | BB% | K% | ISO | WAR/650 | 1b. Carlos Santana (S)

Goal of the offseason was to put together a team that could start off a 5-year window of winning seasons. Originally felt good about it, but after seeing other teams on here, I feel like I'm looking at closer to 75 wins. Not terrible, but a little short of where I wanted to land. Role | Name | ERA+ | SP1 | Dinelson Lamet | 118 | SP2 | Kevin Gausman | 107 | SP3 | Merrill Kelly | 97 | SP4 | Brett Anderson (L) | 97 | SP5 | Trevor Richards | 95 |

Going to heavy platooning - Jeffers/Dubon/Young vs. LHP, Barhardt/Jones/Bruce vs. RHP. Feel good about depth of lineup, but missing stud hitters. Long-term success of this lineup will be determined by Buxton/Kim/McNeil and possibly Jones. Still debating on leaving Jones in minors for one more season and calling up Rengifo. Will be determined by ratings. Mistakes of the offseason: - Keeping Beede. Should have just let him go but wanted to hold him one last season to see if he could bounce back. - Trading $3M for Xander Bogaerts discount rights. Thought for sure I was willing to go highest on him. - Signing both Young and Short. I should have used one of the spots to sign a righty COF with strong defense that could platoon with Tapia and come in as defensive replacement (moving Canha to 1B). Still a chance somebody gets a decent defensive rating to make it work (Kim or Young) but doubtful. Looking ahead to 2022: - Feel pretty good about my hitting/defense. Will be hoping for improvement on higher risk signings and younger players (Buxton, McNeil, Kim, Jones). - Hoping one of young guys I signed long-term hits big (Bettinger, Young, Short). - Only hitter I'll lose is Bruce. Will just need a new lefty corner bat and Jones may fill that role. - Will lose SP3, SP4, SP5, and CL. Will likely let Beede go. Hoping to move Bettinger to SP5, call up Akin or Hall for SP4. - Only hitter I'll lose is Bruce. Will just need a new lefty corner bat and Jones may fill that role. - This will give me about $40-$45M to spend on a SP1 and closer. Team Prediction: 75-87, 4th place in AL Central. One more offseason away from putting a team that can contend for playoffs.

So far, it looks like Hoppy's White Sox are the team to beat this year in NSBL. Pretty much loaded.

I'm not sure how this team compares to my teams of the last handful of years, but after entering the offseason in a state of more directional uncertainty than I have in a long time (losing a number of key FAs, having to fill an entire bullpen, etc.), I'm happy with the way my team looks entering the season. Next year will be another big offseason of FA departures (Rendon/Kiermaier/DeGrom), but hopefully the rest of my team can take enough steps forward to cover those losses (or maybe I can bring some of them back, who knows!). Anyway, here's the roster, it's a good lineup and rotation and a below average bullpen but at least the bullpen is filled with guys I like and have nice peripheral ZiPS (though I have yet to figure out what matters most in terms of projecting ZiPS --> DMB performance, never finished that part of my offseason project):
Rotation: 1. Jacob DeGrom - 149 ERA+ 2. Yu Darvish - 120 ERA+ 3. Alex Wood (L) - 116 ERA+ 4. Dustin May - 112 ERA+ 5. Jon Gray - 102 ERA+
Bullpen: 1. Pete Fairbanks - 122 ERA+ 2. Carlos Estevez - 111 ERA+ 3. Joe Smith - 109 ERA+ 4. Luis Avilan (L) - 106 ERA+ 5. J.B. Wendelken - 106 ERA+ 6. Jacob Barnes - 106 ERA+ 7. Daniel Bard - 106 ERA+ 8. Caleb Smith (L) - 94 ERA+
Starting Lineup: 1. Trea Turner - 122 OPS+ (SS, -2 D) 2. Ronald Acuna Jr. - 147 OPS+ (LF, +4 D) 3. Anthony Rizzo (L) - 118 OPS+ (1B, +4 D) 4. Anthony Rendon - 140 OPS+ (3B, +3 D) 5. Gleyber Torres - 136 OPS+ (DH) 6. Luis Arraez (L) - 111 OPS+ (2B, +0 D) 7. Harrison Bader - 92 OPS+ (RF, +8 D) 8. Kevin Kiermaier (L) - 91 OPS+ (CF, +10 D) 9. Austin Nola - 93 OPS+ (C, -1 D)
Bench: 1. Franchy Cordero (L) - 94 OPS+ (CF, +1 D) 2. Brad Miller (L) - 96 OPS+ (LF, +1 D) 3. Donovan Solano - 87 OPS+ (2B, +1 D) 4. Tomas Telis - 88 OPS+ (C, +1 D)
Reserve Pitching Depth: 1. Yimi Garcia - 105 ERA+ 2. Fernando Romero - 102 ERA+ 3. Robbie Erlin (L) - 91 ERA+ 4. Jeff Hoffman - 91 ERA+ 5. Dennis Santana - 91 ERA+ 6. Nick Pivetta - 90 ERA+ 7. Bryan Abreu - 93 ERA+ 8. Triston McKenzie - 92 ERA+ 9. Joe Biagini - 93 ERA+ 10. shane carle - 88 ERA+
Reserve Hitting Depth: 1. Willi Castro (S) - 101 OPS+ (SS, -3 D) 2. Matt Duffy - 93 OPS+ (3B, -1 D) 3. Raudy Read - 86 OPS+ (C, -3 D)

Those teams in Tampa and Chicago look built to play deep into October. Here's how the 2020 NSBL Champs will start the year...
Rotation Chad Green - 147 ERA+ German Marquez - 120 Joe Musgrove - 109 Adrian Morejon - 111 Jonathan Loaisiga - 110 David Huff - 102
Pen Scott Oberg - 132 Corey Knebel - 125ish (he was traded between ZiPS...) Craig Stammen - 124 Colin Poche - 123 Oliver Drake - 117 Richard Rodriguez - 113 Jordan Romano - 110 Jairo Diaz - 108 Taylor Guilbeau - 98
Lineup C - Roberto Perez - (68 OPS+ / +9 Defense) 1B - Mitch Moreland (99 / +2) and Wilmer Flores (105 / -4 at 2B) 2B - Jose Altuve (123 / -3) 3B - Alex Bregman (143 / +0) SS - Trevor Story (110 / +6) LF - Joc Pederson (116 / +1) CF - Aaron Hicks (112 / +0) RF - Dylan Carlson (97 / +0 in CF) DH - Wilmer Flores (105 / -4 at 2B)
Bench/Depth Derek Dietrich, Doesn't own a glove Aledmys Diaz, UTIL Adam Duvall, OF Phillip Evans, UTIL Luis Guillorme, IF Tyler Flowers, C
Prediction: This pitching staff should be very good, maybe the best I've ever started the season with. And it's good thing because the lineup is beautiful mix of five good hitters and a pile of meh....
I think the pitching and slightly above average defense will keep me in the fight in the always-tough NL West, despite the less than impressive offense. San Francisco franchise is headed in the right direction, but they're still a year or two away. San Diego takes a step back this year, but LA and Colorado are strong.
Colorado: 95-67 Arizona: 91-71 Los Angeles: 90-72 San Francisco: 82-80 San Diego: 71-91

KC Royals 2021 Preview Following a wildly successful season, KC looks to hold off some strong competition to retain the AL Central crown, and hopefully a return trip to the NSBL Championship. Rotation ERA+ FIP C. Carrasco 118 3.71 A. Heaney 112 3.90 G. Richards 100 4.15 B. Hardy 104 4.30 F. Pena 101 4.47 J. Quintana ~95 4.57 C. Flexen 95 4.46 K. Arihara 95 4.65
Bullpen ERA+ FIP K. Giles 143 3.11 J. Karinchak 143 3.08 C. Reed 124 3.68 J. Alvarado 116 3.76 J. Lindgren 118 4.12 T. Duffey 110 3.89 B. Kintzler 106 4.30 C. Roe 105 4.16 K. Middleton 104 4.05 A. Bass 103 4.19 K. Whitley 102 4.28
The KC rotation should feature at least 4 above average SP by ERA+, and could be 5 depending on how I deploy everyone. Between Hardy and Pena, one could jump in the Long role in the pen, and adding Flexen and Arihara adds some depth and a potential 5th SP battle with Quintana. The bullpen is very top heavy, but I like the depth - this is a group where any of about 7 guys could throw at the end of the game and I could be ok with it. Lineup Pos OPS+ Def A. Kirk C 104 1 M. Muncy 1B 127 0 R. Urias 2B 106 0 P. DeJong SS 98 7 V. Guerrero 3B 124 2 A. Dickerson LF 105 -2 L. Cain CF 92 7 A. Garcia RF 98 0 Y. Alvarez DH 146 0
Bench Pos OPS+ Def P. Severino C 87 -3 J. Gyorko IF 95 1 J. Wilson IF 92 0 M. Joyce OF 90 -4 Y. Daza OF 84 3
Last year's offense finished ~4th in the AL, and I would expect this group to be in a similar position. The lineup is pretty deep and has some flexibility built in if I need to move guys around due to injury, underperformance, or the need to tinker. The bench is adequate. None of these guys should be getting a ton of PT, but can fill in when needed. The defense should be ok again, strong up the middle with Kirk, DeJong, and Cain. A couple of big trade acquisitions move to KC this season - Max Muncy and Ken Giles were the biggest moves. Alex Dickerson also arrived via trade to play LF. KC mostly played in the bargain bin of Free Agency, adding depth to the rotation, pen, and bench. Trade AcquisitionsMax Muncy Alex Dickerson Ken Giles Free Agent SigningsGarrett Richards Felix Pena Chris Flexen Koji Arihara Chaz Michael Michael Roe Anthony Bass Keynan Middleton Kodi Whitley Avisail Garcia Pedro Severino Yonathan Daza Jacob Wilson

So Joey Bart randomly got a CF rating of Fr/90 and it's actually better than my starting cf's rating. Wtf?
