Roster just went out. You should see it in your email as shared access to a Google Sheet.
If you don't see it, send me an email and we'll figure it out.
Check for errors. Please, check for errors.
Thanks for your patience!

Ian, would you like us to post option/abritration decisions here, or in a separate thread?
Rosters look sharp,

I feel like an idiot asking this, but if anyone could help me edit the rosters so I can further see my dire cap situation, I would appreciate it. Ian patiently tried to walk me though it via text yesterday but I guess it is beyond me. Any chance I could get an excel so I could move guys back and forth?
thanks all

Ed, click the link on a computer. then goto file -> download then select what format you want, top one is excel. then you should be able to move players and adjust calculations. Thanks Jason, I did that but now it has Peacock, Sale, and Rodriguez as XXX players. This clearly is beyond my mental capacities.

I prefer Google Sheets these day, and am glad that we moved to it. Love being able to easily bring it up on my phone.
Anyway, Ed, your best bet is to make a copy. I'm sure you've tried that already, though.
Or you can do what I do, and bust out a trusty ol' calculator. I'm not mocking ya. That's literally what I do.

Was disappointed when we moved away from old school Excel, but understand that Google Sheets is the wave of the future- at least until they put it behind a paywall Ed, I basically do what John is advocating. I go throwback, save a copy in Excel, and make my adjustments there throughout the season. As long as my numbers are at least close to what the Google Sheets are showing, I go with it. JIm

I do the same as JIm. I keep my own copy for just my roster and use the Sheets when I have to search for a player or check other rosters. I also understand the need to progress to Sheets, but I miss having the autonomy of just being able to download a copy of it and make changes to rosters, etc. I feel like this way means there are two separate living versions of the roster and gives me more chances to mess up. And well know I make errors all the time.

Im not saying I don't keep my own copy... Its just a google sheet. then I don't have to carry around my USB thumb drive. hahaha I just used to keep it saved on my Google Drive. Then as long as I had my phone I had access to my personal copy of the spreadsheet. I think the change to Sheets would be without any qualms or mild complaints if it downloaded into a usable version without changing cell contents. Then it would be essentially the same as we had before, but more accessible.

I'm finally coming around to google sheets. Full excel is still far more powerful for macro's and formatting, but I do like the ability to see everything on my phone sometimes. I too keep a excel file with my roster and just update the $$$ numbers as I go along. I also love the player sheet, a very nice addition. I would like it if we could move to a standardized player name format or player ID to make vlookups easier. We still have some crazy naming . I personally use MLD ID on all my spreadsheets to separate between all the same name guys or the players with letters for names. My personal pet peeves are the jr or jr. or left off, and don't get me started on JJ or J.J. or Jay or J, its killin me. Great job overall, I appreciate the effort.

I'm still having an issue searching for a player across the entire spreadsheet. With the player info page I just sit on it to search for a player. I miss being able to just type it and have it search the whole document though, not just the page I'm on. Yes, I've clicked for to be on "all sheets" but it still will only give me back a result if it is on the sheet I am looking at.

I see that CE decisions are due on March 21. When do we need to get the CE requests in by? Whenever this is, I'm going to want a CE req on Trea Turner (and any other 5th/6th player I may acquire before then). I'm a little confused why we even have requests for CEs? What is the drawback of *NOT* requesting for a player?

Even if it only takes Ian 1 minute to figure out the numbers per player, that's 1 minute I can save him.

I guess I wouldn't ask for a CE on like, Fernando Romero in a few years or something. I guess I just figured his system was something where he had to type in all the requested names and it would be easier to just select all the 5th/6th contracts instead. Who knows!

What is the drawback of *NOT* requesting for a player? It used to be a rule that you could only request numbers for a certain amount of players each year. Maybe 3 or 4? It was unwritten though so it eventually just phased out.

When can we start releasing players, and where do we send them to?

When can we start releasing players, and where do we send them to? You can release players at any time. On the message boards, under Transactions, then under Waivers, there is a thread that says 'Pending Waivers' Just post it there yourself. I should add that you can release players at *almost* any time throughout the year. The only time that you can't release a player would be a short period after the postseason has ended, since we need to 'transition' the roster to the next year. But most people are checked out around that time to get a break anyway.

No, CE numbers will be released during T1 and all decisions will be due before T2 begins. I'll talk to the guys about the turnaround for CE numbers, but please proceed as though the schedule posted will be the one that we follow. Ian did say the schedule was "tentative," so if there is a reason to push anything back, you'll know by Sunday.

It would be nice to have the numbers released before T1 begins. I don't know how much Conforto CE is going to be...and that is going to eat into my cap. It would be nice to know exactly where I am at with his CE# before I start bidding on T1 free agents. I think it's a pretty reasonable thing to do and would be pretty lame if a few days in T1 go by without getting the CE #s released.
I'm sure I am not the only GM in my situation.

Ian did say the schedule was "tentative," so if there is a reason to push anything back, you'll know by Sunday. Ian gonna' Ian. If the CE calculation were simpler and more transparent, GMs could basically calculate- or at least ballpark- their own CEs as soon as the arbitration numbers are released. This whole thing is kind of baffling to me. I think the calculations from 2nd-6th year players are so, so good. They seem accurate relative to production, and closely mimic real life, with a slight financial edge to the teams. Then, it seems like all that is thrown out for an entirely new system of CE's. And frankly, since the Committee removed CE+2, it's a ton of extra work and waiting for essentially one more year of service- often at a hugely inflated price for marquee positions like SP and OF. If there's one area in all of NSBL in need of a total teardown and revamp, CE is it. JIm

To me, that's a star at a very reasonable number, especially when you have GM's handing out 29M multi-year contracts to catchers, no? The overpaying is not the CE's, rather the ridiculous amounts of money thrown at FA that set the bar higher for everyone. The only thing I'm curious about is with the total payroll paid by MLB dropping quickly, will that reflect in lowered CE valuation too?
