I deleted the mistaken pick for Miami, thereby erasing Hayes disgrace from history.
Actually, I just wanted to clean up the actual draft board and keep the discussion stuff over here instead. I also deleted Jim's snafu from the other day.

Just wondering if everyone feels Schmidt is a good pick for an unowned franchise? Schmidt had a dead arm in 2016 and then blew out his arm in 2017 requiring TJ surgery. I could not dump him from my draft board fast enough.

It's always been tough to decide how to deal with unowned franchises in regards to the draft. I've always wondered about whether the committee should be able to override the "next available" rule to move another slot down the draft list to ensure a better consensus pick. There just isn't an elegant way to deal with it (other than hope that all the recruiting Joe and the guys are doing will eventually lead us back to a full roster of GMs).

I think the only time the Committee has ever gone off script for a pick has been when there has been an obviously superior candidate, or it would have resulted in the team continuing to stock up on the same position while ignoring another. I think a couple years ago one unowned team looked like they were going to draft a third SS, so we grabbed someone else. And then during this past Winter we went away from the past MLB Draft and instead took an IFA (Leodys Taveras). The difficult part here is finding a consensus since everyone favors different things. So unless a player was an obvious underslot draftee so a team could spend more money later in the draft (like the Cards last year with Dylan Carlson) we try to stick with the order they were actually drafted in.

3-21 KC Royals select Tyler Wade, SS, NY Yankees Org F... I've had him on my list for over a year and was finally going to pull the trigger on him in Round 4. Nice pick.

Yeah, I think I put him on my list after the 2015 season when he did really well. Then last year it looked like he took a bit of a step back, plus they acquired Torres and Castro and Mateo was still in the mix so it was looking more and more certain that Wade was going to be a utility player. I hadn't paid much attention to him this year but just looked him up a couple weeks ago when I was reviewing the names on my list and saw how well he was doing. I still think his long term role is bouncing back and forth between Utility and Fringe-Average Regular. Maybe like a Scooter Gennett with more speed and less power. But I could have used him as a Dee Gordon replacement or backup until such time as Hiura is ready to assume that 2B job full-time for me. Once I saw him get promoted though I doubted he would drop a whole round to get to me.

Almost took Wade at 2-20, held off for an OF I think can make an impact instead in Hays. I had 5 guys I was looking at for 2-20, figured at least one would still be around. Wade was my top choice, and got worried when a ton of prospect sites had him getting the call this week. Maybe he's only a util guy, but ZIPS seem to be kind to positions, and he'll have value for the Royals. At worst, he's a higher floor guy who is in the Bigs now, and in the 3rd, I'm cool with that

Lin is a guy who has changed his prospect status this year. He is a damn fine pick this late.

I think that Blankenhorn pick is a solid one at this point of the draft. A man without a position, or will he be a super utility guy? Either way, if he continues to progress with the bat the way he is, they'll find a role for him. Very nice add to that struggling Phillies franchise imo. If I had been able to acquire another 3rd round pick, he was one of my targeted guys. Anyone who appreciates grinders would love this kid.

Lin is a guy who has changed his prospect status this year. He is a damn fine pick this late. I've been watching him for what feels like forever in Portland. I the DEF was really good, but I wasn't sure what BOS could do with him. He felt like org depth... then a couple weeks ago, I was at a game, and Monge had to come out, and Lin was put in at CF, and it was good. Reactions good, arm good. the car radio is tuned to local sports radio, until my bluetooth kicks in, and they were talking about Lin with Portland's asst GM and a bout a call up. I hate them, but the Red Sox have a way of fostering that "Zobrist" thing... ala Brock Holt. Chavis (controlled in this league) just got brought up to Portland, and Devers (certainly controlled in this league) looks to be staying here for now... So... I thought I'd take a shot on Lin. They were looking at putting him on the 40 man in the fall anyway, so the harm is low. I appreciate your thoughts on this : )

Blankenhorn just couldn't get to the top of my draft list for that reason. I just don't know where he plays.

Blankenhorn just couldn't get to the top of my draft list for that reason. I just don't know where he plays. He plays in Cedar Rapids right now. Cedar Rapids is the second largest city in Iowa and is the county seat of Linn County. The city lies on both banks of the Cedar River, 20 miles north of Iowa City and 100 miles northeast of Des Moines. Its coordinates are 41.9779° N, 91.6656° W. Hope that helps.

Nice pick of Hagen Danner. Cause if there is one type of prospect that always pans out, it's American High School catchers.

I like the Seuly Matias pick, he was on my short list for my next pick. Kind of split among experts I saw that rated him but does have big ups and he is young.

American High School catchers are the single most riskiest demographic in the draft. Even more than high school RHP. Numbers don't lie. Jeff Mathis, Travis d'Arnaud, Tucker Barnhart, and Austin Hedges are pretty much it in the majors right now. The best catchers come from college, Puerto Rico, and IFA.

Figured I had waited too long on Galindo. Was hoping he would slide thru since he hasn't been getting much ink.

I thought he was going to be selected as a SP, with catcher as the fallback. He was announced as a catcher. He hasn't signed yet though so I think both sides are keeping things a little quiet about how exactly he'll be used. He was supposed to be a tough sign though so I am sure it will be his choice on how he is used, or he won't sign at all. And he was taken by Toronto.

I wasn't really following him, but I thought I had heard that the Nats were all over him as a SP. Interesting nonetheless.

Nice pick of Brandon Lowe, Jim. I really liked him and was in on him quite a bit. He was in the lead for my last pick before Marsh came out of nowhere onto my radar. But I had concerns about how he would do at higher levels and that he was just a college kid beating up on younger competition. In comparison to Shed Long, who strikes out more, but has been hitting for similar power, Long is a year younger but has already been promoted to AA. Tampa Bay always seems slow with their promotions.
Either way, I was still considering him for my final pick. Good get there, son.
Also... you're over the roster limit again.

Thanks Joe.
Pirates waive INF Kyle Kubitza. I'm not sending it to Hayes, because I'm sure that bastard is watching this thread hoping for others to praise the soff pick he just made, stroking his Beard all the while.
Take it, Hayes. Take it.
