Dang. If I had the time, I would dig back into the board to find the posts where Sean fiercely, fiercely defended his Despaigne free agent signing at the time. That's a lot of cheddar still left on the hook for 3 more years. Despaigne can just go get baked and hang out on a beach until the start of the next decade.
This waiver thread has turned into a goshdamn bloodbath.

If I had been right about Despaigne, he would have been a steal. Basically, any outcome where he remained serviceable would have been acceptable.

Say it with me, kids. ODRISAMER DESPAIGNE! (Oh-DREE-saw-mar Day-spawn-YAY!) Yes, of course, Joe would incorrectly compare him Aaron Cook. Makes perfect sense! Because Aaron Cook ALWAYS had a 2:1 K/BB ratio.... what's that? He never had that? You mean Aaron Cook relied solely on a bad fastball, mediocre slider, and superhuman sinker combo? He never struck anyone out? Yes, that was Aaron Cook. Then why would Joe... oh yeah, because he's wrong and jealous and he Tanaka'd himself into oblivion! ODRIAMER DESPAIGNE! This cat throws 7 different pitches. Ok, yes, his sinker is his primary pitch. He has no rising fastball to speak of. He does strike people out tho. He's not gonna be Kevin Brown, but he certainly isn't Aaron Cook. I think Despaigne will continue to throw his 90+ MPH sinker and refine his complimentary stuff. I think he is going to be a fine #3 SP with some years better than that. I expect his ERA and FIP to sit in the mid to high 3s (3.7ish) for the next couple seasons. I just think Despaigne is the next El Duque. I'm requesting that Despaigne be awarded a permanent No Trade Claus on this contract. JUST LEAVE IT THERE FOREVER! I am so confident that I am correct about Despaigne that I will remove the temptation to trade him. Aaron F#@&ing Cook?! Joe, you're better than that. Avila to all, and to all an Avila night! AVILA! NOTE - Tanaka - verb - to hand out large sums of money to one-armed men and then be surprised when it bites you in the ass

Epic. We all make bad moves every now and then, but the smugness laced in Sean's justification affords this a high defeee of succulence.
I'm going to cover my floor with the scratchy side of Velcro strips, and roll around on them while re-reading that post.
