After venting to a division rival and smoking a bowl, let me re-introduce myself.
I'm Bob.
If your opinion on happenings in this league is non-constructive, you can fully blow yourself until you choke to death.
If you choose to be a toxic prick instead of trying to better yourself and others, you can fully blow yourself until you choke to death.
I'm Bob. If you ever have any questions about what I'm doing, contact me and I'm willing to have a civil discourse about it. If you have advice for me, before or after I do something, contact me and I'm happy to accept any help.
But, I don't know any of you from Adam, that means I don't give a fuck about your shitty, mean, or bitchy feelings about what I do.
I'm willing to learn from this perceived mistake. Expect trade talks with me to take time. Also expect that if I don't like your offer that my response may be short.
I'm Bob. I'm the new guy. It's apparently not nice to meet you.

Just stopping by this morning to thank the committee for killing that trade. It's been a busy week and I'm so glad that I've received basically no emails regarding this league. Good and healthy system.

Bob, I feel the frustration, especially when I recall myself going through the uncharted waters when I was new here, as well as seeing what other new GM's have experienced. My advice, albeit unsolicited, is to understand that there is a multi-faceted process going on here. Folks are engaged in FA, juggling payrolls and estimating potential rosters. Trust me, everyone here knows the value of not only having a Gerrit Cole, but also having Cole at that price tag too. Once people wrap their heads around that, but also wrap their heads around what a truly fair and level return to you is, the offers will come. If you see something that starts a trade discussion and you're really trying to proactively move him, reach out to GM's, not with offers, rather with the premise to talks. I don't see any way that a deal won't get done when we're taking about a guy and contract like that. It will be fair and you'll be glad the brakes were pumped a bit.

Thats a nice answer Big Tex...
but here's the 411. SLACK is where it at... for me in many ways, slack activity has killed my interest in the black hole that is the message boards (yeah I come here everyday and read what's new, but tend not to post anymore). for better or worse, we are crushing it daily in the slack channels. It gets heated, and shit gets thrown, but, I for one would never have resigned from the NSBL last time around if slack was popping off like this.
today I left for 15 mins to go judge a student cooking contest and came back to over 50 new responses.
its a draft and wait or sign FA league... trades do happen but its hard to make it your first choice for asset acquisition.

I'd like to think that Matt trading for Seth Lugo is a direct response to my acquisition of J.D. Martinez. It's not true. It's just nice to think that he needed his 8th high leverage RHRP to beat J.D..
I guess a Slack presence is going to be necessary. I'll give it a try sometime this coming week.

Thor t rade is disappointing. Nothing wrong with the return really other than he's paying the CE price to get those players.

So I guess no one is going to say anything about these trades? I have to look like BitterBob and be the guy that says something?
Fixed rate elite SP with the entirety of the extension being paid and he only gets back 1 55 FV player?
Elite SS gets traded for a utility guy and a fat fucking bullpen piece? And I don't want to hear shit about Tony Santillan. He's fat and he's headed to the fucking bullpen because he has no 3rd pitch.
If my trade was garbage, these trades are garbage.
Fuck double standards. You can't sit back and say "I'd give X value for a player that elite" and then a week later be like "that's an okay trade."

I agree. I think both trades should warrant a committee discussion. The 28M throws that deal off the rails for me and the Bogarts trade is a thin return.

I posted a trade block for the entire league to make offers. On this board and on slack. I got 3 offers for Thor, this was the best.
A whole lot of GMs in this league had opinions on what Cole could have got, but apparently had the inability to send an email when Thor became available.

It's becoming clear that what people think a player is worth changes on how it impacts their team. When trading for a guy, value goes down. When evaluating a trade for a guy they might play against, value goes up.
Also, apologies for BitterBob. I just felt a little bit picked on in that moment.

@bob
No worries. given that we're division rivals, it probably makes more sense to call me an asshole.

I think the Bogaerts return is much worse than the Thor return. The return was good w/o the $28M, that would be the only issue with the Thor deal.

@bob No worries. given that we're division rivals, it probably makes more sense to call me an asshole. I take a very "NBA approach" to rivalries. We're buddies until we're actually facing off. Then we're buddies again. Of course, I also tend to respond perceived attacks like a prima donna too. So.... BitchyBob

Whoo boy. Looks like I-Han was feeling some serious pressure to make a move after me, Hayes, and Bri-Han are stocking up like there’s no tomorrow.
Welcome to the big boys table in the NL, Ian. Wonder if you have the moxie to stay here for long.

I don't know. I'm not convinced that your team even has the most moxie in your division. You might not want to offer "spare" moxie until you've at least secured the most moxie.

You got to play the Cubs 18 times, and you BARELY made the playoffs. Sure. And there’s been other years when I had one of the best teams in the NL, and didn’t survive the Divisional Round. The playoffs are a different beast, a back alley simulated knife fight with the best of the best. The 2019 Pirates improbable comeback season will remain the talk of legend and lore, which will only increase as time ticks on. Banners fly forever, I-Han. Remember that. JIm

This drafting situation is simply not one where having an overload of picks is beneficial. You’re either going college kids without much of a junior year, high school kids without a senior season (which is nuts) or low/short season/rookie league pros that just missed an entire season of development. That said, this past week I’ve spent a lot of time researching and had quite a few players I was interested in so I was content hangin’ with my three late round firsts. Then Tracy came a long and made me an offer with value I didn’t think I could get out of my 3 late firsts. Lewis hasn’t found his groove at the plate yet but his AFL performance shows you what that groove can be if he locks it in. I love Kowar probably more than most, he still has ceiling left to reach and his floor is pretty damn high. Devers and Toribio are both extremely young and very talented. To me, these are the types of short season/rookie ball players that we will be drafting this year maybe by the end of the first round. Hell, even Daz Cameron is still an interesting prospect, especially considering the data we will be drafting with this year. So It wasn’t a get out or bust situation for me but I feel justified in my decision to let someone else sort through the lack of data for draft gems this year. Plus I still have three picks to work with myself.
